Has anyone done this conversion??? I'd like your input...I know it's expensive and time consuming.

Like I said I never head on a V6 swap......how many cylinders is that?

No Vortech's when I did mine.......mines just a plain TBI engine.

Theres a guy up here doing one that I saw and it looks good tucked in his truck, doing a sas also, not sure of what he will end up running for actual trans and whatnot, I think he said 350 with the 205 case.

ok, I realize this is semi-common. I was really interested to know if anyone has actually done a swap that has past california emissions......An actual "Vortech" swap. I know I can buy adapters from a couple of different vendors. I know I can buy a wire harness from painless. I know I can buy a donor vehichle and swap it all, I just want to know just how much cussing and beer drinking it's gonna take to do one. <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0">

The man up here is the father of the guy that owns North Valley 4WD, just a casual aquaintaince but a real nice guy, dont see him to much. You could call the shop and ask for Kevin and check with him if youd like. 530-891-4494. I saw it a month ago so Im not sure how far along he is.

I did the 4.3 Vortec swap and kept the Toy 5speed tranny. Paid $1350 for engine w/computer, wiring and all accessories. Bought the bellhousing, flywheel, clutch goodies, etc from Hicks for $800...made my own motor mounts and Xmember....sold the Toy V6 for $900 and other parts off teh 3.0 for another $300.....I ended up swapping to the small silver ECU after going to the Painless Wiring engine Harness which gives you a stand alone electrical system. I used the factory feul pump, but have S10 fuel lines to the filter and tank. I just switched over to a landcruiser clutch MC to get the clutch to release fully(the bellhousing came with a LC slave cyl). I have the CMPI fuel injection system and can easily smoke the 35" BFG AT I now run(I have 4.88 gears with Detroit in rear and Auburn LSD in front). I have a 4" trailmaster susp left and 2" body lift) I lifted the drivetrain 2 inches for more ground clearance and move it back 4 inches so I could run the 4.3 factory fan blade/clutch setup. I have a 120 amp alternator and am adding a dual battery charging system as I have a separate battery for my winch. It was a fun project, but somewhat frustrating as I had trouble getting the info I needed. I sometimes wish I had gone 4L60E with the Toy Tcase adapter, but I still love my 5 speed..next is a D44 SAS so I can run 38" TSLSX Swampers. I also plan to swap Tcases so I can go twin stick and 4.7:1 gears.....fuel mileage is around 23-24 around town(if I take it easy) and I have gotten 28 on the highway(stay under 75). I hope this was a little helpful...
