Motor/ trans compatibility breakdown ??

Any thought into a tranny to engine compatibility breakdown for early (1973-79)f series trucks 2wd and 4wd, auto T / manual T. Basically what bolts to what with out any aftermarket parts, or extreme mods. Something to help those on a budget build and add strength and durability to there rig.

I say this because I just picked up a 1976 2wd f150, 360, t18 for next to nothing. The 360 has some issuse and I've got a solid running 400 just sitting that i was wanting to swap in. I wasn't sure if the block bolt pattern for the bell housing are the same??? I did some research and a t18 should bolt right up seeing that both are big blocks. some kind of compatibility chart would be help full. I found something close on ford truck enthusiast forum but something with more specifics would be nice.

Need a different bellhousing for the 400. The 360 is the FE round pattern. The 400 will be the samew as a 460.

Thanks,

I am aware of that and I have a bellhousing for the 400 it's already mated to a np435(transmission housing is cracked so I'm not using it) The np435 and t18 are nearly identical in the bolt up application.

Ford Versions
The Ford T18 has a 1-1/16" diameter, ten spline input shaft that has a stick-out of 6-1/2" from the front face of the transmission. The pilot tip of the transmission measures ~17mm. The front bearing retainer flange measures ~4.85" and the bearing retainer tube is 1.43" in diameter. The front bolt pattern is the symmetrical Ford "butterfly" pattern; roughly 8-1/2" wide by 6-5/16" tall. The input shaft stick-out length is 6-1/2". Checking these dimensions will verify that the transmission is a 1966 or newer model, precluding it from being the T98.

I'm just a lazy fuck and some kinda of chart that tells you what is compatible and what parts you nee to interchange to do it with out all the interweb surf-in. The special Olympics was hard enough for me, how else would I be able to figure this shit out. I've already gone above and beyond my capabilities :homer::homer:

How about a build comparison, cheap and expensive routes, of a Ford Kingpin Dana 60 vs. a newer Ball Joint Superduty Dana 60? Seems like Superduty 1-ton axle swaps are on the rise with the 10.5 disc rears...
