Weldanator

So i decide to build on onboard welder for my rig. Ended up using a GM CS-130 alternator. Got a 140 amp stator for it from alternatorparts.com. Removed the internal diode bridge. Used a 150 amp 3-phase diode bridge that is used in plasma cutters and inverter welders. Mounted it with a big heat sink inside a project box. Also am using a rheostat to fine tune the field to the alternator. Since the output is isolated I can tig weld on my own rig with it.
This is a second alternator I have mounted. This will not work with standard charging system

cool :smokin:
Very Cool!!!
very cool!
Looks clean. Definately nothing new here, but a nice clean job. While you were in the alternator, you should have reconfigured the stator from Y to Δ .

Where did you source the diodes and what did they set you back?
I used a three phase rectifier module. All self contained. Used in Hypertherm plasma cutters. Think it was about $100

And the CS-130 has a delta winding. The picture is generic.
