Okay, I did a search, but didn't come up with anything.

Who has a welded AMC 20?

I am trying to talk my buddy into welding his rear. He currently has both diffs open with 33"s, and the Jeep is his second rig, so not a lot of street time.

I have heard that spools/weled diffs aren't so bad even on the street, but I'm just wondering about the two piece shafts.

Any thoughts?

Start by welding the axles
I would rather run one welded than with a locker that locks and un-locks. I wouldn't weld it until he upgrades the axles.

Ahh, he's a puss. I was talking to him today. He was all "Man, I am not going to weld it. If I do, it won't be able to drive on the street".

I told him that was bull, but he said he wouldn't do it.

Whatever, I'll just remind him the next time I have to pull him out.

Just leave his as$ once for a little while and sit around the corner while he works at getting it unstuck and you are drinking a

I just installed the welded carrier in my 20 tonight. It barks the tires a little, nowhere near as bad as the spooled 44 in the XJ with same size tires did.
I'd say go for it, for sure.

Weld it! I'd take a spool over a locker any day. When my XJ was locked in the rear it pissed me off every time I downshifted or rounded a corner and it would pop and bang. Good thing I blew that lunchbox locker a few weeks later or I might still be putting up with it When I drive a spooled truck around it is much more predictable. Sure the tires bark, but who cares? None of that banging, poping, or grenading on the trail either.

Like someone else was saying though: ditch those 2 piece shafts or you are just begging for trouble.
