What auto tranny bolts to 258 6cyl, and dana 300 with no adapters? What year vehicles do I find theese auto trannys in and what type of vehicle, will an auto in a 80-90's Cherokee work? thanks

You are in Texas..... I know of a post 1980 J10 for sale here in Corpus Christi for $400 OBO, it has a 360/TF727/NP208 in it if you need to find one quick.

I'ts not mine, it's some guy's in town, we saw it on a road. I'll call him tommorow and see if it works, if so I'll give you his number.

My 1980 CJ-7 258ci came with an AMC 904 tranny, non-lockup.

I had it rebuilt and a low-stall torque converter installed. What a WORLD of difference in driving. Obviously, didn't need as much pedel on take-off, but lacked top-end speed. I maxed out at 120kph, (65 mph i think).

Subsequently, I was de-frauded by the garage and they destroyed the tranmission housing. Aparrently, when the over-running clutch fails, it shear's off the internal housing mounts, and makes the whole transmission housing useless, and i was left without a re-buildable transmission.

I've spent the last 7 months trying to convert it over to a standard. Should be running a T-176 by months' end.
