From Billavista"s Dana 60 article
2001 F350 DRW (balljoint, metric 8x170mm wheel bolt pattern, unit bearing hub)
Ii is a 60 if it is Dual rear wheel but It does'nt say anything about the single rear wheel version.
Here is the link Dana 60 article

The way I read it in peterson's 4x4 was that all Ford Superduty's have Dana 50's in the front unless it an f350(1ton) dually, then it should have the 60. F350 (1ton) non dually are supposed to have the Dana 50. Something to do with track width and cost effectiveness so ford cheesed out on the non duallys. I'll try to find the article, it was in the last 3 or 4 months though.

axle

i know for sure, it is a dana 60 axle if it is a dually. i broke the driver's side outer stub shaft last saturday in my 2002 superduty. it also ruined the lockout hub on that side. i tried to put an old style ford 60 stub shaft in it but the flange on the yoke would not accept the correct seal. so, i had to order the shaft from a ford dealer since it is a dealer item only. i was shocked that it was only $135.00. i also bought a new set of warn hubs to replace the lockouts. the hubs are the same part number as the hubs that everyone runs in a chevy 60. i think it is part #11690. i will try to get some pics of the carnage. oh ya, i was moving a house trailer when the axles under the trailer got hung on a stump in the edge of the lawn i was moving it out of. i had the truck in low range 1st gear spinning all 6 tires on pavement at idle when it broke or exploded, at least it sounded that way. oh ya, ford would not warranty it.

Sorry, I could have been more clear.

The article was only about 60's so I left out other models.

In other words, if it's not specifically listed, it doesn't have a 60.

which means the lads are right on this, and you're looking at a 50

If I remember correctly, in 2001, SRW F350s have D50s in front, DRW F350s have D60s. In 2002, Ford started putting D60s in front of SRW trucks built in Kentucky, but D50s were mostly used if the truck was built in Mexico (some of the Mexico trucks started getting D60s later in the year). I am sure there are 2002 Kentucky trucks with D50s so it all depends on what the Ford plant had in inventory that day. You just have to look.

Supposely you can get a d60 in either f250 or the f350. The default is the d50. You can order an f250 w/a d60 so if you're buying used there is a slight chance it's a 60 but it should have 60 cast into it somewhere.

there's a sticker on teh back side of the long axle tube... the big number's in the middle tell the ring gear size

24x is D50
282 is D60

and FYI teh d50/60 in the SD's have exactly the same outer's the only change was teh center chunk... and they do happen to use the same off the shelf warn hub every 60 has for years...

AFAIK - this is the most correct info posted so far.

My 2000 SRW Crew Cab F250 has a 50 front.

Heres what I know:
The F-250s came with Dana 50's and the F-350 SRW came with Dana 60. But for the 2001 model year both the SRW F-250 and F-350 came with a Dana 60.
