Are you freakin kidding me.....

Do a little research....

How about factory hydro locking diffs front and rear, 500HP, coil springs, huge wheel wells, simple sheetmetal, leather seats but rubber floor matts, the worlds only fully synchro T-case (shift on the fly to low range!) and on and on....

With the possible exception of the Mog, the finest factory 4x4 in the world, bar none.

Drive one, even a 20 year old one, and you'll know....

Not worth what is charged, for sure, but awfully goddamned nice vehicle

They're very cool trucks, and they've been available in the States for a while. The difference is Mercedes hasn't imported them before. So whatever you've seen around is an older model imported through a shop in Arizona.

Paul (would love one)

Those things are sweet, I would drive one, but I think they are a little on the pricey side. There are very few of them as mentioned in this thread. I have seen a few around (LA), they were a prefered celebrity ride of the 80's, but you gotta have some coin to get one......

And alot of them look more like the Land Rover's they use on safari in Africa, I like them.

This auction is for #3 spot on waiting list for the new 2002 Mercedes Benz Gelandewagen, G Wagon 500, at a top NY State Mercedes dealership. Vehicle is promised in late December 2001, early January 2002, at a fixed price of $72500 loaded + $500 freight + taxes. Some dealers (Manhattan Mercedes) are charging "market price" which means people on the waiting list will pay way over the $72500 price. Only 1000 will be sold in the US in 2002, be the first to own one. Current wait list is over 12 months from first delivery date (mid December 2001). You can chose the color and options, but it comes completely loaded already. Winner will pay the winning price for my spot in line, and refund my $1000 refundable deposit that I put on the car last spring. Email me with questions

Why would the buyer need to refund his refundable deposit <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

I have to say that the G is the bomb! Best "out of the box" made...I thought the D90 was the king of out of the box, but the G is hands down. Europa Motors, right here in Santa Fe NM., was the only importer of the G. Then Tri-Star noticed how many units Dave was selling, and bought his North American rights to sell...He made a fortune. Here is a friends G that he's modifying for the rocks..

Not bad considering!

Being a Mercedes owner and former I don't get it type, I have to admit the stuff is quality. I Dig the top cut off. I see older ones in the paper from time to time. I may have to make this the non Jeep exception at the store. Hmmmm?????........

I could never imagine spending that kind of cash on a vehicle! I think my max is $500!:) But I guess if you got the cash, you gotta blow it on something.

G Wagen

I might be interested if it had a manual trans and a diesel. Of course they come with this outside the US. Why do we only get the pussy wagon versions of everything? G wagens, Land Cruisers, LRs, etc... The answer's obvious looking at who buys the majority of SUVs in this country new. But you'd think they'd see the niche market, sell a couple of hundred plus more hardcore rigs a year. Gwagen diesel/stick, Land Cruiser diesel Troopcarrier, LWB + crewcab diesel Defender.
I laid down underneath a Gwagen a Anchorage Mercedes a couple of weeks ago. Respectable solid axles with dropout 3rd members, big closed knuckle (sales lady couldn't tell me if Birfield, Rzeppa, Tracta joint).

Ditto on all that, I've wanted a Gelandewagen (sp?) ever since I saw them in an Australian Auto Trader magazine. F**in manufacturers always sell the biggest chunks of sh*t here in the states, if they even sell that. Too many d**n lawyers here sueing everybody because there wasn't a warning label not to use your toaster in the bathtub!!! HEHhee.

Too bad Australia's gun laws now hark back to Nazi Germany and ours are on the way.

An armed society is a polite society!

Oh yeah, the mods look great!!! The early body style even looks better too.

Whew...got that outta my system!

I have 220k on my 3.0 SD The engine still runs great. They are really easy to fix too. There are a few tricks though. Check out the Mercedes Mailing list if you haven't already.
