5+ years ago, I was out wheeling (~Memorial day weekend) and we came to a portion of an access road that had "sank" into the swamp....I slowly proceeded into it, since I was the one with the custom snorkle, and reached the point where the windshield was touching water on the passenger side...since no one else was gonna come close I backed out, no problem....right?
About 1-2 miles later, I noticed my oil pressure going haywire....found out I had ingested swamp water in with the oil and junked all the bearings in the motor.
Long story short, I spend the month of June that summer rebuilding the 350 I had in the garage...completed it, got it tuned and running the Sunday before the 4th of July. Took it for a trail ride over the 4th, and I was STILL so confident in my waterproofing capabilities that I AGAIN crossed a deep pond...this one only hood high. Got stuck, motor finally just stalled, but once on dry ground I hit the key and it started immediately....I thougt KEWL....then looked at my oil pressure...100 PSI, even for a new motor, is a bit much....towed it back to camp, pulled the dipstick, and the silt spooged out....
2 motors in a bit more than 30 days....
I swear I'm not going into water with the 350 TBI I'm installing now....really, I swear it....
