What pressure do you run on your air compressor for a air/hydraulic setup to bend 1.5 inch tube with .120 wall? I just got my setup running and it stalled on my 2nd bend when the 14" ram is out about 7". first bend went well after spending a lot of time bleeding it today. I am at 110psi. I think I may need to bleed the system better but wanted to see what people think about the pressure first.

mine is at 125 psi, and it does what i think you are talking about. it goes like hell and about half way it start to pump slower, but when mine does that it is pumping harder and just as fast. and thats with 1 1/2 and 1 3/4

I am using one of these. Not sure if yours is the same or similar.

I keep mine at a consistent 120 psi.

With this cylinder, you have to have a compressor that keeps up with the pressure requirement otherwise it gets slower. It still keeps moving on lower psi however moves much quicker when in the 110-120 psi range.

EDIT: I also bled the cylinder and topped it off upright before installing it onto the bender. I have had no problems in 100+ bends.

I have a spx ram mounted horizontal. Then I went and got a cheap central hydraulics (HF) pump. Once I got it blead, I made one bend quick and easy. It retracted all but about .5 inch so then I pushed on the arms and stuff and it retracted. I think the follower was in the way. Then it sat about an hour and then when I made the second bend it was like it didn't have any power even with a full compressor and only extended 7inches and that was after I extended it about 4" and then retracted and then extended again.

what pump are you using. I am wondering if it is worth upgrading since it doesn't run your compressor much. I have an 80 gallon system so it shouldn't run much if I can run low pressures.

mine don't have any problems at any psi, but i have it set up vertical. i couldn't get it to work at all horizontal.

What size compressor/tank do you guys recommend to run your air over hydraulic benders?
A lot.

They use a lot of air, and if you are doing many bends it will run quick.

Putting a 90* bend in 1.5 x .120 my 80g kicked-on. And it fills to 175 psi.

Running at 125psi.

You can run a small compressor setup but it will just run more.

X2, the HF Rams are air hogs, I've got a 60 gallon I keep at 135 and mine will kick on once at about 50*, and again right when I'm finishing. Not a big deal since I know when it kicks on i need to reset my pin anyways, but they use a lot of air
