Background. I bought an 87gmc 1/2 ton 4x4 to fix up. I'm already deeper in $$ than it is worth at this point. That's part of it. It has a good body, good running 350 with holley 650, 700r4 rmvb. No air as most of it was cut out. Also all the stuff pertaining to the tbi.

It runs great, as is, carb needs a bit of tuning due to loading up. It needs a few small things, but I rarely drive it b/c of mileage and no a/c. I know I sound like a girl complaining about the a/c, but I'm a pastor, and most days don't need to sweat like a hog before appointments.

Point-- I'm considering selling the whole drive train, may could net about $1300, maybe not.... Then fixing up the body, paint, details....

Then.... putting a modern engine/tranny combo. I'd love a 6.0 :smokin:

Money is tight with 4 girls, not complaining, just saying.
I was originally going to fix it up for my daughter who loves the old pile... lol, but I want her to have something with an airbag. I love her but she has no clue :shaking:

From what I hear, these swaps are getting cheaper and easier...

I'd just jump yard the ac crap and keep it if your too deep in it. Otherwise cut your loses sell the whole truck and start with one thats not butchered already.

If your biggest complaint is AC, just fix the AC. If MPG is the biggest complaint, buy something smaller.

Money is tight, you're already into it more than it is worth, and you're thinking about doing a drivetrain swap?

If you need the a/c, then fix the a/c - cheaper than a drivetrain swap or a new vehicle. If you want better mileage, the cost of a new drivetrain will buy you a buttload of tankfuls...

You're all correct, plus I'm burnt out on it. i just love the old thing.... but ya'll are right.

I say, if you love it, keep it. Maybe you know better then me but, you only live once. Enjoy what you love and don't let stupid money get in the way! Passion towards what you love is more important then money, right? Go price out an a/c system.
