[Flatty]

What would you guys say? UI can build a 83 Toy ( I already have the frame) or a Samurai? I kinda like the TOy idea, but a sammy is small and limber. I want to run 38's on this thing, but either way it will have a 1/4 ellip rear, and coils up front most likely. If I do the toyu, I will get a cab, and chop the back off. Go full tubes ion the rear with a 4.3, 420, dual case setup on some custom axles. The Sammy will be usinmg the stock motor, stock tranny, and lower case. Toy axles with 38's, 1/4 rear, coils font. What would you guys do?

I thought you were selling your flatty and building a daily driver. A built sammy is no better as a daily driver than a built flatty. I know it would be a little challenging to make doors and a top for the lengthened flatty tub but it would be doable. If you want something that is reasonable to drive to and from the trails and around town then go Toyota.

Mind you this would not be a daily driver. I will take my time building it, and the only time I will drive it is when I go to the trail. I have the Ford for now. If I do the Sammy, I will stretch it to at least a 100" wheelbase, so that is not a problem, and I may even go with some scout 44's or something along thosae lines. Basically, I will have the same wheelbase in tyhe toy or the sammy. Now I just have to figure out what I would rather wheel. Hmmmmmm Auto with dual toy cases sounds good to me right about now. I can drink "soda" and smoke a ciggy and drive at the same time.

If your going to stretch it go with the Toy, take advantage of the all the Toyota aftermarket parts. Not to mention the double stack, the double stack is enough reason alone to me.

both are cool, but the sami will be easier on the budget...

4.16 transfer gears a like 400bucks, a lockright 175... you would also save on tires, as with the sam on 33" you´d get the angles/clearance than a toy w/ 35s

the 1,3 is ok... down here i am the only 1,3L engine that ever climbed a sand-dune that is called V8... go figure

... as i said, a toy would be cool, too ... and both have a real good aftermarket

run the 4.3, turbo 350, dual cases and yota axles coils front 1/4 eliptict rear

No actually, I would go with a Sammi on a custom frame(I know you have the skillz, and you are talking having coils and 1/4 ellip anyway. Save the trouble of making a stock frame work for you), then cut the fenders out like you have done with your Flatty(front and rear)and tube the fender edges because Sammi's look good that way. Push the tires out so you have 90*+ approach/departure angles. Then you end up with something that looks like this.

Either one should look and work great. If you want something that will catch a little more looks on the trail, I think the zuk would be the one to go with. Either cut out the fenders like the one that Station posted or cut off the back and make it into a pickup cab with a flat bed.

You might also want to talk to Poppycock over in the zuk section. He's building a hardtop on 38's with a 97 inch wheel base.

startin with the toy frame, I'd go hybrid and put whatever I wanted on it from there. something like Robin Hoods rig in the last TTC really has my attention... I like it simple like that not the fucking monkey bar disasters everyone is building in their garages right now..
