Well So. Cal boys and those that have been to Baja, Which Cruiser should I take on a road trip down there. I have been invited to go camping in Baja in June of next year and is 350 miles down the pacific coast from San Diego. Would you take a 75 fj40 built for nor cal trails, see sig line, with its matching trailer, or the stock fj62 with the trailer. Plus to the 62 is a/c but the 40 gets better mileage towing the trailer. I will be taking the whole family so the space of the wagon is nice. If I take the wagon any recommended mods before I go? I'm asking now as this gets me several months to prep the wagon if needed. Thanks for the info.

What are your friends driving down to Baja? I would probably drive the 62 if you are taking the whole family. Might be nice to have a little smother ride & the luxury of A/C. Got any pics of your rigs? You wouldn't happen to be in the So. Cal. chapter of the T.L.C.A. would you? Goodluck & have fun on your trip.

Thanks for the input Livewire and yes I just joined the so. cal. TLCA when I moved down here. You can see my 75 fj40 on the web page so.cal.landcruisers.tripod.com its the yellow one with cute kids in one pic and swimming in Fordyce creek in another one. I dont have a picture of the 89 but if you have seen a bone stock down to the 235's fj62 then you have seen it. the other families we are to go with drive stock chevy and dodge pick ups so I'm my guess is the wheeling is very light weight. Any thing I need to look out for vehicle wise down there? Thanks for the help.

Be careful and it might not hurt to get ahold of Ramstein, I know he has made many trips down there.

That is a sweet '75, but I would take the FJ62 because of the room and the A/C. It depends on what you will be doing, but a bone stock 62 will get you down the dirt roads to the beach and back. Don't forget your hilift jack and a come along. You might talk to Nick Le at the club meeting tomorrow at the HB library park. He races his FJ80 down there.
You need to know some useful Spanish phrases:
Levo sus manos = Hands up
No tenemos drogas o pistolas = We don't have any drugs or pistols.
Tenemos dinero = We have money
Me gusto Mexico = I like Mexico

You have a nice Cruiser. I would recommend that you never leave your rig parked anywhere without someone looking out for it. A friend of mine just had his fully loaded 1999 Z71 4X4 Chevy stolen in Baja. Was loaded with 3 guys stuff & camping /diving gear. Never found it & he had insurance, but didn't cover shit. Be safe & obey the laws & you should be fine.

Come on over to the meeting guy's we will be at the huntington beach main library at goldenwest and talbert. Coming off the 405 take beach exit and head towards the ocean until you hit talbert. turn right and follow till it dead ends that will be talbert & goldenwest. Start time is 3pm in the afternoon bring a lawn chair as we meet outside under some shade trees. Thanks for the input and I think the 62 will get the job my only concern is the small gas tank so I need to find a larger tank for the beast. Hope to see ya on Sunday.

There are a couple of tanks available that around both roughly $450-$500.
