Just tryin to figure out exactly what years of grand cherokee will work best for me before i go to the junkyard. I'm getting ready to install an SYE and will be putting on the driveshaft. i have a 97 cherokee with np231 and 8.25 rear axle and rusty's 6.5 lift.

I used one from a 4.0 auto Cherokee. FWIW, I am at about 8: of lift, have a Dana 44, and a PORC SYE. This driveshaft works well for me, but is almost too long. It doesn't bottom out, so it's ok though. I'm not sure if the 8.25 has a shorter or longer snout than the Dana 44 though. If it is longer, I don't think it would work for you.
