Anyone have a rcomondation for winch grease, Warn recs Aeroshell 17, or lithium. I've had problems with the lithium cloging up the planetary gears so it is next to imposible to freespool. Can't seem to locate the aeroshell locally. I was thinking about using engine asssembly grease with graphite in it, any sugestions appreciated.

Thanks I think you may be right I soaked the planetary gears in Kerosene and cleaned them I am going to try repacking with a less liberal amount of grease. I think I am going to use the engine assembly grease to lightly coat everything as it is lightweight, and use the synthetic bearing grease to lube the gears.

Thanks Merv I had thought of using swivel grease (which I don't happen to have) which your recipe is prolly pretty close to in viscosity. I will try your formula and report in.

Maine 110,

I'd use synthetic grease. I had to change my 8274's oil over to syn this winter, could hardly freewheel it out in -10F weather... Amazing, the difference it made!
