don't go to Costco! I work there i know they are way more exensive. Even if you don't buy tires from them i believe balance an rotation is free (balance might actually be a couple bucks ea. tire, can't remember). What I did is call every mail order place I could and I believe 4WPW had the best prices, then I called America's Tire because I know they match prices and had them call 4WPW and basically walked away the same day with 4 32x11.50" BFG Muds for $500. Not bad, but i wish i would have gotten the optional road hazard warranty, a week later i put a nail through one of them . I work at costco so they installed them for free but still, really good deal on those tires. If you don't have an America's Tire near you, just try to find sme place that matches prices. Hope this helps.

I just got a quote today from Discount tire, 4 33 MTs out the door, $746 (with road hazzard). That seems steep to me (I think it was $135 sticker per tire).

The new MTs? $165 per tire! Are they really $30 better!?!?

I wonder why tires are so expensive?

Desert Rat is very reasonable and seem to have good customer service. Don't just settle for sticker prices though, do a little work and you can get them for cheaper. If you think Desert Rat is so good, go to a local shop that is willing to match prices. Then you gt it for the same or sometimes better, and you don't have to pay the shipping, sometimes even get your tires the same day if they have 'em in stock.

Here's what you do. Look in the magazines, call all the places with the lowest prices, then call 4 Wheel Parts wholesalers. They will usually beat the best price, with shipping, by a few bucks. This is what I did. I told someone else to do it and they got a better price then I did.

I got my 35*12.50 Swamper SSR's from America's Tire. They met the lowest advertised price I could find (Internet ads were accepted at the time).

Good luck.

If you want BFGs or Goodyears (and if you guys got a set MT/Rs you'd stop cutting the F'ers up) go to www.tirerack.com.

Call em up and see if they'll deal, and then take their cheapest price and call 4wheelparts. They'll beat it. By a lot if you push hard enough.

Also, someone reported that Sams Club had MT/Rs and Swampers avaiable as special order for really good prices. Go down there in person and ask to talk it over with the mamager in their tire department. I got my old Buckshots mounted and balanced there for $55 including (off)road hazard protection.

Sams Club tire guys look at you really funny when you request the stick-on weights, because you keep stripping the clamp-on ones off on trees...

I buy mine at Sears and get the no questions asked road hazard for an extra $10 a tire. It is pro rated, but I pop so many BFG M/T's that they always jsut give me a free tire. I also get the lifetime balancing for $10 a tire. And there are Sears everywhere.

The last time I bought tires, I bought 8 BFG A/Ts 31x10.50x15, 4 of them were KO's. I paid $660.00, and I get them mounted and balanced locally for $5.00 per. Then again they are 31's and there is no road hazard warr.
