about D44 widths????

I've searched this throught-out this thread, but can't find an answer suitable for my needs. <IMG SRC="smilies/crybaby2.gif" border="0">

I have an oppertunity to mount a full width D44 under my '80 CJ-7, however i want it cut down to a reaistic size. Were the D44 axles under scounts and early Jeeps the same width? I's one better then the other? I'm looking for uniformity for replacement parts in whatever axle length i choose.

Any & all input will be appreciated, and yes i know i'm a <IMG SRC="smilies/rainbow.gif" border="0"> for asking question that dosen't involve D60's. Oh well, gotta start somewhere.

P.S. Gotta keep this thing as a daily driver in the big city. Total plan is to mount SOA & minimal body lift <IMG SRC="smilies/eyemouth.gif" border="0">

I have a Scout D44 front laying in my garage that is a little bit under 60" WMS to WMS.

We have a couple guys in our club who use full width Scout 2 axles. They are a couple inches wider than a CJ7 axle, but work fine that way. On my flatty I'm using a Front D44 from a scout, but had to cut it down to fit.

I have the Scout II Dana 44 under my Jeep and have had troubles with local law enforcement due to axle width/tire stickout.

You will need wider flares and outboard your springs unless you narrow the Chev housing with custom shafts.

It is getting more difficult around here with the cops as they pull over anything lifted nowdays, and as an example, I have been pulled over 8 times in the last 3 months just for inspection notices.

Keep to narrower tires and rim offsets, and you should be fine.

Guess I should go to the 37" Boggers and sell the 35x16's
