Maxx is a good boy...

Feel good story for the day--other than the GoFundMe crap. For Christ sake, don't people have insurance?

German shepherd helps rescue children from burning home | WFLA.com

LONGWOOD, Fla. (WFLA/AP) — Authorities in central Florida say a German shepherd helped firefighters locate the two young children of his owners in heavy smoke as a blaze destroyed their home.

Maxx, the family dog, is credited with helping firefighters during the blaze

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says that the dog named Maxx helped firefighters find the 4-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl Monday night in their home in the Orlando suburb, Longwood.

“Maxx, the family dog, is credited with assisting firefighters through the heavy smoke to the location of each of the two children,” according to a GoFundMe page set up for the family.

Moments earlier, neighbors who saw the fire spreading called 911, broke windows and helped evacuate the children’s mother, Margo Feaser.

Firefighters then were able to rescue Feaser’s husband, as well as the two children with Maxx’s help.

Feaser is a 12-year veteran of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, working as an investigator. According to GoFundMe, she also served with the U.S. Army for three years and is currently a member of the Army National Guard. Her husband is also a military veteran.

Family members were hospitalized and their conditions ranged from serious to critical.

The dog was treated for smoke inhalation and is now doing well.

The GoFundMe page says the family is unable to return to their home, as it was completely destroyed in the fire. The GoFundMe account “will assist with medical, veterinary, and other housing expenses as the family works to get back on their feet,” the page reads.

And, how big was the house that trained fire fighters used an untrained German Shepherd to assist in finding the children? Was it an enormous three bedroom house? Was the dog barking at the window where the kids were and the news sensationalized it by saying that the dog was assisting? I hate a good story that has to be ruined by bullshit. Just tell the fawkin story already and keep to the facts. Friends and family should be enough to get them through this.

Yeah, or the parents hopefully knew which room the kids were in...

Why did the fire dept let a dog run in and out of a burning house?

I'm curious to know the story from the firefighters who where there. Primary searches are one on the hardest things we do, trying to find your way through a house you have never been in with limited to no visibility. Maybe the dog led them to where the family members where? But even then blindly following a dog only gets you to the vic and not back out if you weren't staying in contact with a wall and making a mental map. The go fund me page lacks tact and I will leave it at that...

Probably not enough manpower to worry about a dog when you are trying to search for vics and perform a fire attack. So less of they let it happen and more of they had better things to worry about.

The parents may have known what room the kids HAD been in, but what if the kids had moved to...you know...escape the fire and all?
