I heard something about Longfields being softer than Bellfields. I am wordering about the differences too. Dan is a cool guy at the hammers.

well I know that at the :roxy: bash dan broke a rear yoke on his d-shaft on wrecking ball about 3/4 of the way up. he then had to turn around and go back down the way we came up. in talking with him when he got back, he said he ended up breaking both inners, a birf, and a r&p on the way down. dunno if the birf was a bellfield or something else, but seein as he produces them I'd ASSume he'd be runnin his own shtuff.

I will attest to the trail being bad ass. I'm still a rooky and had a friend with me that had just finished building his truck, we both turned around  .
I didn't think I was up for the trail and my buddy wanted to test his out and learn his rig before going up something like that. We walked part way up and on the first obstacle JRT broke a birf and Mustard dog broke a rear driveshaft.
It took 7 rigs almost seven hours to get through. Mustard dog busted a rear axle near the top and they left it there overnight.

According to a supposed birfield specialist, the bellfields hold up better in tests than longs.
I think he said his bellfields held up for him for something like 2 years of hammer trips with 39.5's.

After talking to dan, I know his product is second to none. There is a reason why his birfields are $160 each.

When he got home and took it apart it was just the ring and pinion

I've been running the same set for 4-5 trips to the Hammers and one trip to AZ....4.10 gears and 38.5 SX's........2 inner axle failures and 1 ring and pinion....I now run them with Piggy's 300m axles and Hendrix modified hubs....no issues

the same set will be in the new buggy :)

Your comparing a $600+ product against a product that is less than $300. The 30 spline also replaces the inner shafts. Apples and oranges! Now compare the old treated birfs that Bobby started selling and I would give the edge to Dan's birfs. But I think the new 30 spline chromo's are the shit!

$320 + sipping for 2 Bellfields (stock birfs with rings)

$410 Free shipping for 2 4340 27-spline Longs (sickets birf in existance)

The choice is simple!
