What if you could buy a 3/4 length lightweight hardtop similar to an FJ45 halfcab for around $500.00?

That would be great if it would work with a rollcage.....
The thing that is nice about soft tops is that they tend to "fit" around stuff....

I used to want a hardtop...however, it no longer fits my needs.
A soft top is removable once I get to the trail so that is nice cause I have ripped the crap out of it by thinking I can fit down the trails here in WA with the soft top on <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0">
Once I start towing I probably won't ever use anything except the bikini top and soft doors.

I think I have the rollcage issue solved to work with this top.

A CV boot that would contour the cage and seal the hole for the tubing.

I hope to have the first 10 or so of these tops assembled for the Spring rains of 2002.

Will keep you posted as the developments! <IMG SRC="smilies/massey.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/massey.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/usa.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/massey.gif" border="0">

I agree soft top prices are outragous! Plus they don't seem to last log, snaps break, zippers rip off, and you can't leave anything of value in your Cruzah. Tree branches are not friendly to soft tops either.
But they are easier to store and a little bit easier to install and remove. <IMG SRC="smilies/skull.gif" border="0">

Anyone remember the soft tops sold by Fab Tech (the B.C. original, not this new USA SUV one). I really liked them because they were much less expensive and looked cool. They used no hoops, but were made to fit over the roll cage. I know I have a photo somewhere, but can't locate it now. Without needing the hoops, I bet a good upholstry shop could make one relatively cheaply.

There is a Kayline one on Ebay. It is at $150 right now. It does not have the bows, but find someone close to you that has the same type of top and make them out of conduit. It should not be very difficult to do. The last Kayline I got about 3years ago was from Quadratec and it was $469 without doors. I checked my local upholstery shop that handles boat tops and they said they could make one out of marine grade fabric that is just like the Heep tops except stronger for $500. That top would be custom and would withstand pretty much anything.
Just a couple thoughts.

Dude if you really get this going let me know. This is exactally what I was looking for. Would it only fit a stock cage?
