Here's the million dollar question, well maybe a 2 dollar one.
Got my HS9500i with the multimount kit and put it on tonight. Wired the quick connects up front and rear and noticed the spare 38" SX on my rear tire carrier is right where the winch's solenoid pack wants to be. I'm betting I can just run the winch in the upside down position to solve the problem if I ever need to winch someone from behind. There's no oil or fluid inside any gearbox to leak, correct? I could easily make a 12" extension piece too, but why do it if I can just run the winch upside down.
Let's hear the opinions.

I do not see why it would not work, but if this were my ? I would be contacting Warn Tech support. They were very helpful when I serviced my winch and it did not work afterwards!!!

Just a guess, but if I remember right, those have planetaries. The electonics don't care what position they're in, and the gears should still be in oil, so I don't see a problem.

I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow, but just was curious tonight.
If anyone else is gonna buy a winch, 4WPW is offering free shipping and one of the Warn winch accessories kits for free with anything over 8k. I got my 9500, the multimount winch tray, front and rear cables with quick connects and a 16k snatch block for $1125 shipped. Everything came complete and was easy to install.
I really wanted the front/rear interchangabily and the ability to remove it in case someone gets tempted. Plus I could put it on another truck easily. A lot of AZ trails it's easier to switch the winch rather than try to turn around.

1)The winch should be fine upsidedown. I have a friend with one on the rear or his FJ45 and has used the rear winch several times. It is mounted upside down.

2)Be careful using the 9500 in a multimount. A typical (Class III/IV) hitch is only rated for 5000 lbs. to 10,000 lbs. I would be leary about hooking up my 9500lb winch to a hitch that is rated for close to the same capacity.

I'm probably wrong, but better safe than sorry.
