I'm at a crossroads in my Jeep project, and a friend is offering his very stalled project 62 Scout 80.

Basically he is offering the frame and body. Engine and drivetrain are long gone, as well as a lot the hard to find restoration pieces, thanks to his brother in law and scrapping metals. So it would be a barebones sort of build.

My first thought was a pile of Ford Ranger stuff I have on hand, 2.3 5 speed and the whole wiring harness. And a couple XJ axles. But decided to sell all that stuff.

So back to the Jeep stuff. I'm giving some thought to stripping my 95 Grand Cherokee. but no idea if there is room in the engine bay for the 4.0.

Nothing super tough, just a good fair weather cruiser.

A 4.0 will fit great in a Scout 800 V8 body. In a 4 cylinder 800 body or any Scout 80 it will require moving the front bulkhead and frame cross member.
