Okay, still learning about Jeeps and the search turned up info but not what I am asking. Now the question, I have a '93 high output cherokee 4.0 engine and I was wondering if a TF727/dana 20 combo out of a Scout will bolt up. This combo is in working condition and it is dirt cheap. Can this be done with adapters? Thanks!

I don't know if a scout dana 20 is better or even different than a CJ dana 20, but I can't imagine actually putting one in on purpose.

Yeah, Why put that set-up in your cherokee? I've had very good luck, i.e. no problems, with over 15 auto-equipped cherokees in the past six years. Let me know.

I'd imagine the reason he's considering it is because the Dana 20 is a gear driven transfer case with no need for a SYE. And, he said he can get it for cheap...

And Scout D20's have the output on the correct side and also are geared lower than Jeep D20s

I'm running one behind a T18 I pulled from a J20. And that's beind a TBI350 in a YJ on 38's on full width 8 lug 60/44. Should I have stuck with my Peugot/241?

I've been beating on it for almost a year now with no problems. Is it an Atlas, hell no. But I picked up the already mated T18/20 for chump change and get all the free D20 spares I want for free.

Just wanted you to see why someone would put a D20 in on purpose. I'm saving my money for Mr Atlas, but I'm on a budget here.

Yes, that is why and also what x658x said "I'd imagine the reason he's considering it is because the Dana 20 is a gear driven transfer case with no need for a SYE. And, he said he can get it for cheap... " So with that said I guess the swap is almost bolt in? Let me explain what is happening a little better. I have a YJ frame with a 4.0 HO engine from a '93 cherokee and am missing the tranny/t-case. I think this will work, yes/no?

I don't think that a Scout 727 will bolt up to your Jeep engine. They have different bolt patterns.

Adapters maybe? Just wanting to make sure before I go and pull these babies out. If they don't then what, I know the 999 but cannot find one around here.

scout and cj dana20's have the same side drop. Think about all the people putting scout axles under cj's, wouldnt work the other way.

What you could do is use a grand wagoneer 727 and take the factory adapter and bull gear off the IH 727 and put it in the wagoneer 727 and have a amc bellhousing pattern 727 bolted to a dana20.

only downside to this (and I got this info off the IH board here) is that you won't be able to put any lower gears in the 20 due to the bull gear having a different spline count than the cj bull gear.

You will also have to get a different front axle since its got the wrong side drop. If you have good fab skills and can get the axles along w/ the tranny and tcase then it sounds like a good idea. Might be a lot more work than its worth though.

you'd also have to do the vibration damper crank shaft positionin sensor mod like the 258 MPFI kits use, or tap the bellhousing to hold the stock one.
