Im swapping a 302 into my Jeep YJ.. I have a C6 trans out of an early FS Bronco... and I have a starter motor based on that setup.. ( i told them it was for an early 80's bronco rather then a 92 stang to get a starter at Autozone...) Anyways.. im really confused about the wiring and the starter solenoid... The solenoid looks like a typical one.. that is two main posts opposite eachother on the bottom, and two smaller posts above.. where exactly am i supposed to attach the different wires from the mustang harness? and... theres a wire that comes out of my original Jeep bulkhead connector that is labled as "crank".. am i correct in assuming this is the wire that triggers the starter? or am i totally confused...
Also.. what is the absolute minimum wiring i need connected to have the engine turnover... on the mustang end.. its just that red/lt grn wire and red/lt blue wire.. then the two grounds.. the one by the 60-pin connector and the other is a black/ornge (i think) wire with a ring terminal and inline fuse at the end.... ??
shit anthother question...
In line fuses... now i didnt get both sides of the green connector by the 60-pin for the stang engine wiring harness.. and apparently on the other side were some fusible links that i need.. anyone know what the hell im talking about..
i hate fucking wiring
thanks
Shane

heres probably the worst fucking picture possible to show u what i mean.... paint is like drawing with god damn Crayons

That's the problem most Jeep owners run into when they try to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

You need 5 wires to make it run. Forget color code for now as the Jeep wiring and Ford will be different colors.

Find any of the 5.0L swap sites and see where on the Ford harness you hook up the wires. I think your looking for a 'crank only', 'crank/run', 'run', 'hot in run' and 'start'. Check for sure.

Then get out your trusty VOM and start looking around the Jeep harness till you find wire's that correspond. Then hook them up. Should fire right up.

For a starter SOL get one from an Escort. They have all the proper terminals. You can get the crank only signal from the extra terminal on the SOL and it's diode suppressed, that's necessary.

MY NOTES ARE FROM MY SWAP OF AN '89 5.0L INTO MY '93 YJ

The "crank" wire on yer YJ harness should be brown or yellow(my notes are getting kinda crappy with age).....
that brown or yellow wire connects to the start relay( small post) as well as the red-lite blue from the stang harness (distributor). On the same small post you should also have a stang black-orange to the EEC power relay, and a black- orange from the alternator ( I moved the black-orange comming from the alternator to the battery positive terminal)

Also.. what is the absolute minimum wiring i need connected to have the engine turnover
You need the "crank" wire from the old YJ starter to the small terminal on the start solenoid, battery positive to one big terminal on the start solenoid and a wire to the starter from the other big terminal on the start solenoid, connect the battery and hit the key... it should spin

hope that helps

not yet... im still in the process of wiring... then its really just the radiator and a rear driveshaft.. i have an OEM radiator from Autozone for a 'stang... just got to mount it somehow.. shouldnt be too hard.... rear driveshafts gonna be a bitch... my 9" pinion is pointed way below the TC output yoke.. i may just leave out my rear track bar and hope for a shit load of axlewrap...

I ended up using a 3 core heavy duty YJ rad in mine, it cools just fine. To test my cooling system I tortured my junk by dragging a tree trunk around my farm in front wheel drive lowrange.... after 45 minutes of kickin it's ass I was satisfied.

Good luck on the 9".

BTW: I had my 5.0L runnin in 5 days. From the time I yanked the 4.0L , installed my C-4, Dana 20 and had the 5.0 runnin was.... 5 days, it was driving with exhaust done in 7 and broken in 8 lol. The break was just a rear u joint tho. lol

Any other wiring question PM me I'll do my best to help ya:flipoff2:
