One of our prime missions has always been to embrace multiuse of the Fordyce trail. Usually this means hikers, and bikers as well as 4x4's but in the case of the work about to be performed on the trail we're talking about different kinds of rigs. Buggies can negotiate the entire trail with ease but parts of the trail have become almost impossible for mildly built rigs. This planned work will do nothing to alter the hardcore nature of the Fordyce trail.

The committee trail we built to replace the old section has degraded badly in spots. It will be brought back to it's original intent as a bailout through which broken rigs can be extracted without too much trouble. The winch hill 1 bypass will be turned back into a true bypass.

Another part of our mission will also be accomplished. As part of our environmental responsibility the old section of trail at the mudhole bypass will be rehabilitated back to natural form as well as the old committee trail. Keep in mind that while these sections have remained they have officially been "off trail" for a long time. Our blockades have continually been destroyed and admittedly it was sometimes impossible to tell if one was off trail if it was ones first time on the trail. Others just didn't care and continued to use the old sections. Once these sections are rehabilitated there will be no excuses and anyone using them will truly be off trail and jeopardizing our continued access to the trail.

We should all be grateful we have such a great relationship with the Tahoe Nation Forest. There are people there that fully support our right to recreate on the Fordyce trail and also work hard to make sure the trail is maintained in a form that is sustainable.

Thanks for all the hard work. We have a group of 4-6 of us coming to run the trail from the 24-27. Are we going to have any areas that will be blocked? We have never done the trail before and i am also looking for a map or GPS file to keep us on the designated trail and not the closed area. Thanks again.

It's hard to say where the machine will be on the 24th. The work area is the mudhole reroute at mile 6 but sometime on the 24th he may be heading back out. I don't think the trail will actually be blocked unless he is still working on a hill on the reroute where the plan is to embed some large rocks to stabilize the area. If you come up on him in a narrow spot you might have to wait for him to move to a wider place to pass. He will be moving slow so please be patient. He will definitely be moving up trail on the 25th and out committee.

Don't forget about the trail work this week if your on the trail. They put up a sign at the pierce creek split going in eagle lake and also one at Fordyce lake when you turn left to go down the committee trail.
