YES go for the yellow top. They rock if you are running a winch or extra lights. I have left fans and lights on for days and still started my rig.

Read through the warranty info on their website. If you use your a red top for deep cycle purposes(winching), it will void the warranty. I haven't had to warranty an optima, but I hear they are pricks about it.

I've had my red top for 5 or 6 years and it's still going strong. I don't have a winch, stereo, extra lights or anything, so it's been truely a starting battery only. I have run it dead a few times though by leaving the lights on. It came back every time. I've left my lights on for hours and it still starts. They are kick ass batteries. I'm probably going to put my red top in the jeep and pick up a yellow top for my bronco.

Hmmm... I've always heard the red top was better for winching since it has higher CCA and recharges more quickly...

i have a yellow top, i posted about a week ago whats it take to kill an optima. well after all the just recharge it blah blah blah, it is dead. its barely 2 years old if that and hasnt been used hard. i killed it by letting it sit in my jeep. needless to say im not impressed and will not dish out the money for a yellow top again. and the warrenty gets kinda iffy. i could buy prolly 4 batteries for the price of the one optima. i will be checking into the black panther battery.

I thought Black Panther batteries were the $hit

I looked for their website but can't seem to find it.

Does anybody have first hand knowledge of them?

whatever.. i use nothing but red tops.. piss on them..
i have two of them.. one i have had for 8 years.. killed it dead mucho times... upwards of 10 or more.. stick it on the recharger.. good as new.. the other one i just got a year ago.. ran it dead once already.. still works fine..
i run winch.. lights.. radio.. had alternator go out.. and ran the battery dead that way.. you name it i have thrown it at it..
i dont know what the hell you people do to kill one..
but a good recharge will bring it back to life..

I've got a blue top and it works great, did kill one after 16 months because it was 2" above the headers on my jeep for 800 miles from phoenix. They warrantied it no problem though.

You might wanna check ebay. I've never bought anything off ebay, but awhile back I was browsing and someone was selling new optima's hella cheap. Dunno how legit it was though. Worth looking into.
