today i had the UPS man offer me 6 grand for my 4runner in its current condition, which is..................

1985 4runner, 22re with blown headgasket and header, body in good shape, 6 inch allpro lift, allpro rock guards and front bumper, custom(shitty as hell) rear swing away tire carrier, detroit in the rear, with 4.88s in the axles and on 35x13.50 MT baha claws.

i love this truck to death and would hate to see it go but considering my current situation, i think it would really be more logical to own a vehicle that is more highway friendly. even if i do take this guy up on his offer, i know that later on i will eventually purchase another truck for a build up.

so lets hear it, what would you do? would i be incredibly stupid to pass this up?

He says "more logical to own a vehicle that is more highway friendly" which he follows up with "i will eventually purchase another truck for a build up"!

Definately sell it, if you are questioning wheather to keep it or not, if you were 100% sure not to sell, you would not have these questions in your head...

You will regret it either way. 6g's is a ton of money. Buy a civic or something for commuting, and save up and buy a early 80's pickup or 4runner you can turn into a dedicated off road truck. It is a lot better if you dont rely on your ofroad tuck as a daily driver. aka, you can beat the shit out of it, and it is fun to do that.

....AAAAAnd Mike pulls a complete 180. But something tells me he was just trying to rile up DRM. Is that supposed to be hard to accomplish? :shaking: :flipoff2:

SELL IT!... Buy a $2000 1990 honda or an older VW Rabbit Diesel. (Got 50 MPG? :p)

When you have a second rig, you can build your rig a whole lot more cost effectively: No need for lower diff gears, do the dual ultimate cases you wanted anyway... Spool insead of detroit... Hacked up ugly-ass body... Cut off the roof and replace with tube... Plastic buckets for easy clean up... and most importantly: Spend the money that went into things like allpro hangers on a welder and a chop-saw and a drill press... things like that.

I betcha I could build my current rig for $3000 if I did it over again. I spent more than that on the perfect 894Runner I built it out of, and it doesn't have any original paint or undented panels remaining... and the hardtop doesn't fit back on.

If someone offered me $6k for the rig, I'd take it on the spot and walk the 10 miles home with a big grin on my face.

$6K for a broke down truck sounds like a good deal. Take the money and buy another more road friendly toy (EFI) and spend a little now to upgrade it. Probably have to buy an IFS so throw a body lift some 33's and a lockright in it, and slowly build it that.

Sell it, buy a POS commuter, buy a POS project toy and build it on the cheap with the knowledge you have from the first build.

Assuming YOU built your "baby" :flipoff2:

But how much does a headgasket cost? You make it sound like that's all it needs?

hell yeah do it...
but a cheap ford escort to drive around in and then put the rest of the money into a play toy or something. that sounds like a lot of money for what you got... go for it.
