I don't think so

the 81 is a Dana 50 (3/4 ton)

the 94 is a Dana 44 (1/2 ton)

I believe the spline count is different but I could be wrong
the 3/4 came with both dana 44 and dana 50
but with the to different year would the spline change or would there be a higher spline count with the 3/4ton
can get the 81 front end for 800 comes with 4:88 and a detroit

if you can get the ENTIRE front then buy it. The whole thing will bolt tight in.
Not if it's a D50. The pivot points are in different locations as the arms are different lengths from the 44.

If the '81 is a 44, the third should bolt up, but the inner shaft is almost surely the earlier style which bolts in to the side of the third rather than using an internal c-clip.

I think $800 is steep, that's just me

I have seen someone use a Dana 50 TTB in a 87-91 Bronco
in a older issue of Four Wheeler,
I think a solid Dana 60 or 44 is helluva stronger. I think you could find a Dana 60 for 200 more.

thats what i was going to say....if your gonna go through all the trouble to swap out the ttb's, then why not step up 2-300 more and slap a 60 under there and be done?:D

It was my understanding that the D50 TTB shafts were a direct fit into the 44. Either way, a 50 is barely if any stronger than a 44. Its shafts are tapered at the inside to the same diameter as a 44.

MY friend is posting this under my name....

the reason for this swap is because he has 3:55 gears and 35's. this is slow as fawk. now he needs gears and bad, the d44 third has 4:88's and a detroit locker. this would be a cheap and easy way to get gears up front. also the 800 is canadian. and a sas is out of the question untill he is out of school.:) this third will bolt up to his housing.....? and would the axle shafts be worth gettin for spares or will they not fit?

sorry im a yota guy that doesn;t know to much ford stuff. thanx for the replies.:)

The 50 will fit right in the 44 housing, but there is a very good chance the 81 has the 44 anyway, as long as it has a gvw of around 7000 or so.
