How the hell do you remove the stock steering wheel from a cj3 ?

I took the nut off but there is no holes or any way to attach a puller.

How did you guys remove your steering wheel from the shaft ?

I tried putting a large crescent wrench behind it and pounding on the wrench to dislodge it but no luck.

What's the trick ?

You could do like the PO of mine did and cut the hub on the wheel and gouge the splines and make a mess, or, do like I did on my parts jeep, get 2 pieces of flat bar to go behind the steering wheel hub, radius it for a close but not touching fit to the column, and bolt them together. Then you can attach a puller to the bar stock and pop it off. Be careful not to crack the wheel. Crappy drawing coming soon!

Something like that... 3/8 or 1/2" by 1" bar stock or something, thread and bold them together. Gives you 3 points to attach a harmonic balancer puller with some bolts.

Come to think of it, a HF bearing puller may do the same job....

Leave the nut loose and go for a drive...or if you want to do it the "pirate" way take the nut off....

orrr. use a split collar style puller and take the easy way out:p
