Can this be done to a TJ with HD HP D44 with RE brackets and a 3" Suspension Lift with Chevy TRE's.

Can someone point me to some detailed pics of such a steering system as I cannot locate any with the searches that I have done. I have seen Nasviks site, but he did not end up going with true cross over steering. I have seen Billa Vista's excellent web site on steering but there are no TJ pics there.

My heap has been off the road for 3 months and sorting the steering out is the last thing I need to do. I want to use Chevy TRE's and I would like to go full X-over high steer, however I don't seen to be able to find anyone else who has done this. With full X-over it looks like there will be binding between the draglink and the Tie Rod (this is using the stock TJ Pitman arm). I cannot put the Tie Rod too close to the ball joint in the knuckle because then the tie rod looks like it will hit the coils...

Hard to do this in Australia, where so few others have done this.

Your advice and time is much appreciated.

Well with the correct hi-steer arms, on flat top knuckles, your tie rod should be fine. Then run then the drag link to the pass side arm, and voila, done. Check the angles of your drag link and trac bar to check for bump steer. Sounds easier than it is. Check for binding and all too. But I don' think the tie rod would hit the coil, it up and forward.

Inverted T like mine is easier to do than a crossover IMHO.

Here is a shot of my old Jeep with a D44 and crossover steering. I used the factory linkage mounted on the high clearance steering arms. The factory bends in the draglink really give you clearance around the passenger side coil bucket.

Just takes some work to get everything to clear and turn right.

Looks like putting X-over steering on the TJ is not a common mod for D44 equipped vehicles. Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't say that at all. Just throw on a set of flat top knuckles with some machined steering arms, make some custom links using TREs or heims and be done.

I think CJ's steering would still be classified as "Inverted Y" or "Knuckle-Over Inverted Y" . Beast40's set-up would be "Knuckle-Over Inverted T". 1TONTJ and I have "Full High Steer" with "Inverted T" links (TR is mounted to high steer arms, well above the stock location).

Crossover steering is where the TR is mounted knuckle to knuckle and the DL is mounted independently of the TR either on top of the knuckle (if TR is knuckle-under) or mounted to a high-steer arm that is mounted on top of a flat top knuckle.

Full high steer with crossover links would have the TR mounted to high steer arms, above the stock location on the flat top knuckle. The DL will go from the pitman arm to a second hole on the high steer arm. The way you mount them will also depend on use of TRE's or Heims.

Also, I was told when setting up my high steer on my coiled D44, that true high steer with crossover links was very difficult, due to coil spring and sway bar mount clearance.

CJ, It looks like your drag link may be getting even more spring clearence in that pic. It looks like you've got positive toe in that's increasing by the moment. Did your drag link bend there?
