i heard some 87-89 XJs had d44s in them, and i was just offered the rear out of an 87 or 88 for free but i dont know if it has the 44. all i know is its a 4.0, 5 speed, 2 door. if anyone knows which ones had the 44 any help would be great

Well, your best bet would be to go look at it (or look at a pic of it). I think XJ's with a factory tow package had a D44 rear.

I'm pretty sure that not all XJ's with the "tow package" have the 44 rear. I've seen plenty of XJ's in those years without a 44 rear, but they were supposedly equipped with the "tow package". They're out there, but they are rare...

Yes any cherokee from 87-89 had a dana 44 rear and the only way to know for sure is lokking at it under the cherokee. And for you f*** that don't know what it loks like then visit jeep board.com to find out...!!!! P.S. Its kinda octagonal shaped.

Also no cherokee ever came with a front 44 unless it was a fulsize jeep. And even then the difff is on a different size thatn an international, so def not an IH so anymore questions ask someone who really knows about XJ's.

I think what he meant by international is "foreign market", not IH.

South American XJs suposedly got the front D44/D30 hybrid like the TJ Rubicon.

Well, all I can say is that you're pretty bold to shoot your mouth off somewhere where you really have no idea what is going on. At least you're in the right forum. Pretty big assumtion that by "International" he meant that we were talking about Scouts. Kinda cocky are we...???

International XJ's (those in countries other that the US- like South America), from what I have read, did come with a 44 front on some types of models. What years, and what model options came with them I don't know. Those with 44 fronts may have been in the XJ's that were also equipped with the diesel engines.

Not all the 87-90 XJs with "the tow package" had a 44. My 88 Limited with "Tow Package B" has a 35.

3 out of 4 (four small headlights, woodgrain sides) XJ Wagoneers I have looked at had 44 rears under there, one had a 35.

Some MJ Comanches (usually LWB with the Metric Ton/'Big Ton' package) had 44s, some had Model 20s. One fellow enthusiast in my club found a 44 under a SWB MJ, so don't rule those out.

Most of the wagoneer XJ's with the woodgrain did have them. Only way to be sure is to look
