I'm replacing my entire t-case (with an sye'd and cv'd unit) after last week's follies with bending the mainshaft etc.

Do i need to drop the entire tranny to pull the t-case (like it says in my haynes mannual)?

i have neither the tools or the know how.

after i unbolt the tranny mount and begin to unbolt the crossmember does the tranny need to be supported by something more than a small hydraulic jack?
how do i get the jack under the tranny and above the crossmember id it does need to be supported?

thanks
RJ

i have removed my d300 several times by myself. i imagine the aluminum cased 231 is lighter than my d300 but not sure. it was a bit heavy laying under the "heep" and letting it down and bench pressing it back up to put it back on but not bad. it might not be the easiest or the safest way but it works.

Yeah, the 231 is quite a bit lighter. I did mine all by myself when I removed it to do my SYE.

It's pretty easy. Just support the tranny in front of the skidplate with a jack, remove the skidplate, drain the t-case, unplug all the shit from the T-case and disconnect the linkage, un-bolt the t-case, and then just get underneath it on a creeper and pull it off the pegs onto your chest. they only weigh about 100 lbs. (if that).

A monkey could do it.
