I am putting together my yj and was contemplating 39.5 tsls I would like to see some first. My crawl ratio question is this. Is anyone running a auto with 205 and 5.13s? this is only a 25 to 1 crawl ratio, and with 39.5s is pretty high. I was curious if anyone is happy with this?

Your gonna want a Doubler or an Atlas...The Doubler would be cheaper but you need to decide if you have room for it. For rockcrawling you will not be happy with 25:1 but it might work for mud and moderate trails.

Just to get some perspective I was wondering if 120:1 will be ok but I'll be at 145:1 with a planned on 42" TSL with a healthy V8...and 99% of my wheeling is rockcrawling. :D

Guys he has an auto.. don't forget to account for the torque converter which almost doubles his crawl..

You will be "ok" with that range but it will not be super slow.. I ran my jeep like that for a while it was 43:1 but was a manual.. so your around there with your auto..

But I`d look into a Doubler or a Klune or Atlas :D

Thanks guys. I ran out of time to finish typing. I have a d300 with 2.62 to 1 and it works out to 35 to 1. I am just concerned with the strength of the d300 with 5.13s and 39.5s. I think I will run the d300 and if I break it I will get a 3.8 Atlas. Lets see some pics.

I had a Th 350 and a NP 205 on tsl's 38

real bad performance on rocks

The prob is that the torque cinverter is doing all the job and heats up the sysytem , to a point where no cooler can do the job i rebuit my auto 3 times , and decided to get a Nv 4500 and a dana 300 , today I have 90: 1 and no more probs.

:D

Well I guess I need to clarify. I am not building a comp rig or rockcrawler. I am in Western Washington and want the most all around capable rig I can have. I am sure I want to run the d300 now and will look into an atlas 2.

I had 4.0/999/D300 (4:1) 5.13's and 39.5's. There were a couple of times I wanted a little more gear but not many. What engine and tranny are you running????? If its the same as mine you wont go very far without flashing the converter at 25:1

I was a 56:1 and it was great. Never hurt the D300 either.

I am running a 350 tbi, th350, and now planning a d300 with stock gears until I get the $ for a 3.8 atlas2. What do you mean with flashing the converter? I dont do alot of rockcrawling so the heat issue usually faced with autos will be minimal. If you are the ROCKSLUT I think you are could you post or e-mail me some pics of your rig on 39.5s? I have several of your rig on 38.5s and only one on 39.5s. What width rim were you running? I plan on a 16.5x9.5 by the time the beadlock is on. [email protected]. The one pic of your rig on 39.5s is in the rocks from the drivers side. The first time I saw your rig it tripped me out cause mine is white with a black front clip and 7 leaf waggys. Very similar so your pics are almost perfect after pics for my judgment on my project.

Well, the auto definately helps, but at only 25-1 you;re gonna be KILLIN it.

Im at:

3.93 x 5.29 x 4.70 = 97.71 to 1

That is not low enough in my opinion while running 42" swampers.

So, I'll be adding in a Marlin crawler 2.28 case to make my lowest ratio 222 to 1.

That's low enough for my needs.

Thanks a ton for the pics guys. I am definitely running the 39.5s now.

Sami Joe I will be running a d300 so it actually is 34 to 1for now, and eventually I plan to run an Atlas 2 with 3.8 low range which works out to be 49 to 1. Now I just had another option brought to my attention, and it is the 700r4 planetary into the th350 giving me a 3.06 low 1st gear, so with that and the stock d300 it is 3.06x2.62x5.13 which is a 41 to 1 crawl. This crawl ratio is exactly what I am shooting for so I am off to research this planetary gear swap.
