I got a 85 runner and i was think about putting 5.29s in it but i dont know what brand to put in. I have heard US, Yukon, and Precision are the best to got with but i cant decide. If anyone has had any experience with any of these brand i would like to hear your comments.

Gotta agree, go U.S.

I've seen a precision pinion gear that was .009" out of round right from the factory. Couldn't get a bearing on, that's how it was discovered.

Last time I talked to Randy's (2 months ago) US Gear had made their last batch of 8" 5.29s (Yukon). Might want to call and ask them again.

Randy's R&P still has Toyota 5.29s by Yukon, and they have several complete thirds ready to go, but I would go with a different brand. I just recently installed a set of yukons in my truck, and the rear has been nothing but trouble. Plus, Randys R&P's customer service has sucked in my opinion. Good luck.

That's pretty disturbing to hear that you had problems with your Yukon gears. I just ordered a setup 3rd with Yukon 5.29s and a Detroit SL from Randy's.

I insisted on US Gears and Brian at Randy's said they just rebox US Gear gearsets as Yukons and resell them.

Are there any markings on the gearset from the manufacturer?

Anyone else with Yukon gears that are giving them problems?

So in other words, everyone has had their own problems with just about every brand out there, and the ones that didnt, just got lucky.

I personally have never heard of a problem with U.S. Gears or Pecision for that matter. If you talking Guinune Gears from 4WPW ....I broke 2 of em. Youkon Gears are the same quality which = shit. I have set up the Genuine Gears and it took 8 trys to get the pattern right, U.S. gears took me 2 times. I think allot of these problem related to gears are also related to the initial set-up as well.

Refer to River City Diffs.when you have gear needs.........

Like I said Richmond, That is what Gearman recommended to me, and they have taken all the abuse, that Mrs. OOP'S has given them. She has the attitude of " I will make it one way or the other"

The salesman from Randy's strongly suggested Yukon, but i suppose they are supposed to say that. Were is the best deal on some Richmonds or Precision???????

everything from Randy's is a YUKON gear, but they're all re-box's of other brands or made offshore somewhere, you never know what your going to get when you open a YUKON box, my YUKON spool was a dewco re-stamped and i've seen dana/spices and US gears both comeout of YUKON boxes... so you never know <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

I just got my setup 3rd from Randy's R&P today (5.29 Yukon gears, Detroit SL).

As Brian there told me, the Yukon gears ARE US Gears. The ring gear is stamped exactly the same as the US Gears that are in the differential I am installing in the front.

FYI,

Thanx to all of you. I guess it is just a gamble on the gears. I also better be careful on who installs the them.
