I have a 1987 standard cab truck with a bench seat. I bet you can all see where this is going. I would like to know what would fit in the truck that is better that the stock bench seat. I know that Toyota had bucket seats in the same trucks around the same years and that should work. What I am looking for are the weird swaps. Like a seat from a 1988 Dodge Shadow will fit perfectly with out major modifications. Let me know what you came up with. Thanks

My first seat swap in the '85 was a pair of Subaru seats that I made brackets for - basically a bent piece of flat bar stock that I welded to the Subaru brackets. From there I went to a set of Recaro's out of a VW GTI. Again, welded up a couple brackets to fit the Recaro frames. Depending on where you are located, I have a pair of Toyota buckets out of my parts 4Runner that I'm planning on selling.

I put Corbeau Baja SS suspension seats in my 88 4 Runner. They are awesome. I cut the sliders off the stock seats and welded angle iron to them to match the spacing of the Corbeaus and it bolted right up. Didn't take long either and so much better than what was in there.

I just put a set of 96' Accord seats in my 85' 4Runner. The slider frames are a good bit wider than the stock buckets, but I used some 1"x2" rectangular tubing welded to the stock toyota mounting tabs, then I welded the tubing to the sliders on the Accord seats. They sit a little higher, and I didn't get the passenger seat in at the right angle(to be corrected tomorrow), but they're super comfortable. Plus, I like the fact that they sit a little higher. I always felt like the stock seats sat too low. I'm 6ft 205lbs, so head room isn't super crucial. As soon as I get the passenger seat corrected, I'll post pics.

Pictures of how you did yours? I have mine mounts made to not adjust which is fine for me but I used to let others drive my rig.

Oh and for the OP I have Corbeau Baja SS's in mine. I'm tall and would love to get Ultra's(taller).

Has this subject been covered before???

Are you tall or short? Many seats will get you in the ball park, a tape measure will get you a double or triple for sure at the pick and pull depending on your size and ability to fab.

These are my fave....

Civic seats sit too high. Even the early ones.

I ran some WRX seats in my 1st 4runner. However, they even sat a little taller than the stock DLX seats they replaced.

My favorite seats are the 85-89 SR5 seats. You will not find a more comfortable seat IMO. I sat many miles in these including a couple trips to CA and back to CO and plenty of trail time. They are by far the best IMO for a factory syle seat.

I now have a 2000 4runner sport with the sport SR5 seats. They aren't nearly as comfortable as my old one were.

These are some 98 civic seats. the frame slider rails on the seats were way to tall so I cut 'em off and made some simple new mounting tabs and used the stock toyota seat bolts from the old bench and bolted 'em to the floor. there is no adjusting the distance from the pedals, I just put them where they worked for me. (the girlfriends legs don't reach the pedals now. ha tragic) 20 bucks each and work great. the truck is a 93.

90's honda civic seats are alright. i personally own a 93 civic and the seats are a little to firm. and sit lower then stock toy buckets do. I also use to own 85 sr5 seats pretty comfy but there was a bar around the lower back i could feel at times.
