I have an 85 toyota with an auto tranny,it shifts find half the time and the other half of the time it wants to shift into over drive way too soon. So if you run it out of overdrive it does just fine in town and most of the time down the highway.
I have changed all the fluids, filter, checked the level. It is inconsistent when it happens. When I put it under a load it does not want to downshift.
I took it to AAMCO tranny shop, and they thought it could be the TPS which is an easy fix, but that it could be as high as $200 dollars if I do it myself.
I don't want to spend the money if it won't fix it. I am trying to build this truck as my budget allows. No immediate need, just want to fix it right the first time.
Would that fix it? Can I bypass the TPS on this truck? Are there any other things it could be?
I have had a toyota truck a long time ago, but never had one with an Auto tranny.
