Time to show my newb flames here (in regards to rovers). What is the (apx 6" dia) alarm bell looking thing attached to the right rear of the front diff housing? I know, retardedly stupid thing to ask, but i just never really bothered to ask about it until now.

You guys are terrible. Tell him the truth its a torque converter. Discos have 2 and if its a manual it means you can shift with out using the clutch and stop with out taking it out of gear. If the vehicle stalls or grinds you are doing it wrong. Keep practicing.

HA HA effing HA. seriously, what is it? I am not as stupid as this questions sounds, i just have never seen one until i bought this rover. Simple question. I am not an effing encyclopedia of parts like some others on here like to think they are. My life does NOT revolve around wrenching on my trucks. Unlike some people on here (in the jeep forums) i HAVE a life.

the correct answer is somewhere in this thread :smokin:

it is a vibration damper. throw it away before the first time you try to offroad it. don't tell your wife and she won't miss it. if you tell her she will complain it vibrates.

I'd just leave it since it has a cable to catch it when it falls off, the bolt is probably rusted on there anyway...
