2.) Use your waggy knuckles, obtain a FSJ/Chevy 44 brake setup, stub, and small bearing spindle, easily find a '76-96' (not 87' though) Ford half ton rotor, hub and bearings, throw it together and have a "real" 44 with internal hubs and 5 on 5.5.
i plan on goin this route. was wondering if it would be possilbe to go with this set up and anve manual locking hubs?
 
Yes, you can have either manual locking hubs, auto locking hubs, or full time drive slugs. The Chevy/Ford/fullsize Jeep parts are all interchangable in regards to the three drive systems mentioned.
