The Blazabbit

Some of you may have already seen pics and heard of my truck. It started as a '77 Blazer with a mildly built 454,TH400/205 and 11" of lift. I peeled off the body, and dropped an '81 Rabbit pickup body on it. I then built a 6pt cage tied to the frame out of a Smittybuilt Blazer cage kit. It worked pretty well, just had to cut the bars down to fit the smaller cab. It has gone through major changes over the years. Axles started as a D44/14b with 4.56's, and tires were 39.5" TSL's. I then got a set of 44" Boggers, and a couple months later I put in a D60 with crossover high steer, and twin sticked the 205. After that, I added hydro assist, because 44's don't like to turn with a spool in the front. The next add was a doubler kit from Jed's Machining. So far the best upgrade yet. I took it out twice after the doubler, and the second time I twisted my 14b housing, and snapped a front outer shaft into 6 pieces. Time to upgrade! As of now, it is sitting on jackstands, with a pair of front Rockwells sitting in place of the puny one tons. I'm using the link brackets and heims from Ruff Stuff Specialties, and pinion brake kits from DIY4X.

To start...I had been looking for a 1991 Chevy Crew Cab for a little over 2 years. I was looking at any Chevy Crew Cab, but really wanted the 1991 due to the fact that it was the only year they came from the factory with the automatic overdrive. I also wanted a SRW one, but contemplated and test drove a couple of DRWs.

So...around comes the first of December and I spot a 1991 for sale on Craigslist that is only 3-1/2 hours drive from home! I tell the wife and the next day I take my son and go to look at it!! Liked it, made the deal and the next weekend I went back down to pick it up.

Spent the weekend at my parents' driving around town and then drove over to Redmond, OR in the truck for work and to see my brother. Turned around the next day and drove it home to Western Washington. Not one drop of fluid was lost at any point! Needless to say I was pleased!!

So...I came home with a 1991 V3500 with the TBI Gen V 454, NP205 and 8" of lift on 35s.

Since I have had it I have R&R'ed the driveshafts (front piece of the rear 2-piece was bent and had a pretty good vibration, rear piece was too short for the lift so it got re-tubed as well), mod'ed the DRAC with a DIP switch so the MPH is now correct, did some tune-up stuff and fixed a vacuum leak so that it could pass WA-Emissions, and fixed a ground/short in the dome lamp circuit. Next up is some brake work to fix a leaky M/C and installing some mud flaps on the rear to get out of my dang fix-it ticket I got the other day!

New Rims are in the list of things to do. They aren't in the budget right now! Probably gonna step it up to 37s (it has 35s on it now). I would love to put a diesel in it, but that is a much longer term plan. Mostly I have been working on fixing the little things here and there. Gonna put new bumpers on it and fix a couple of small dents that are in it. I would also like to put in some newer seats out of like an early 2000 and retrofit one of those DU-HA underseat storage units to it. The interior needs some work.

Was out in the snow working on my K5 today. 1990, TBI 350, 435/twin stick 205 D60/14BFF front 52's ORD Crossover, ORD shackle flip.
Just got the front bumper/winch mount/front spring hanger assembly mounted and put the winch in. Still need to cut the hood for narrowed front.
