Lets start with a little background:
This project began about 18 Months ago on a wheeling trip with Jeremy one of owners of JT's Parts and Accessories and Nitro Gear and Axle. After a very wet wheeling trip to Browns Camp and a little bit of seat time in my old S&N Bravo Chassis, Jeremy was hooked and wanted to start a "Budget" build with some old parts off his Toyota Truggy.
Well we were just getting our shop up and running and were excited to get a buggy project that would allow us to show some of the capabilities of our shop and test a few ideas we had been toying with. It also allowed us to work with one of the premier axle shaft and parts suppliers in the country. We knew that Jeremy would supply us with a great list of parts for this build and he didn't disappoint.
Original plans were to use aftermarket toyota housings and keep the drivetrain relatively light and again keep as many parts from Jeremy's truggy as possible. However the 95 vortec 4.3 from the truck wasn't going to cut it so a 6.0 L76 (all aluminum VVT) was bought and the 700R4 was kept along with the purchase of a Atlas 3.8.
This plan however was quickly shot and Spider 9's 3.5's with Ultimate Knuckles were ordered and some bling diffs were ordered. Being that this is for a differential company normal 9" diffs wouldn't be enough so BILLET 10" R/P drop out from Tom's Differentials were ordered up and Nitro 4340 shafts and Excaliber 300M Joints were going to be stuffed into the axles.
Also the stock L76 was a bit soft for this build, so a MAST Motorsports 510 HP VVT Cam and wiring package was installed to get a bit more HP to the ground. The transmission got a bit of attention as well and a manual valve body was installed and stronger internals.
Jeremy wanted to have a 4 seater to take the whole family and a little bit of gear along for day excursions and possible over night trips. So comfort was a key part of what he asked for when building this buggy. Creature comforts were to include a stereo, seat heaters, and a heater with vents. We also have a small amount of room designated behind the fuel tank for a few spare tools and parts all while keeping a very small chassis for tight Northwest Trails and the hardest rock trails.
The chassis we built will be our Hammer Time 4 Seater. It is designed to run 14" Coilovers up front and 16" Coilovers out back with 2" Bumps. The chassis sits at just around 71" tall with a 18" belly using 8" of up travel rear with 6-7" up front.
