I have the megasquirt II 3.0 PCB running fuel only on my rig. Its been a good system for me.

Project update

Slow progress, but I've completed the soldering of the Megasquirt kit. I've had to order a couple of mod kits that I thought would be included. I'm adding a control for the Idle Air valve and a controller for the fan.

Yesterday I installed the Baumann Engineering AOD shift improver kit. Great customer service. There was one page of instructions missing. Got them on the phone and was walked through the process step by step. Nothing complex, but can't be too careful with a valve body.

Getting parts and pieces in place for the big swap. Probably gonna happen in March. That's the first time I can get a good stretch of days off. I have a back-up car, but really don't want to use it very much. More later.

Another Update

Bought the Ford exploder rear axle today. Plan on carefully cutting off the brackets, setting the pinion angle and rewelding them back on. Gotta get some new u-bolts and go back to the pic a part and find the spring plates. The axle included all the soft lines, hard lines, disc brake rotors and calipers. I'm hoping to use the YJ soft line and an adapter to hook it up to the new axle.

Back to the motor. When I pulled the motor, I cut the fuel line before the spring fittings. My '95 is already fuel injected, so I plan on using the resident pressure and return lines. Any ideas on how to marry the two fuel systems? I'm hoping for a flexible hose between the YJ fuel system and the hard line on the motor. I've got the spring lock tool, but how do I connect fuel line to that fitting?

I don't remember having to purchase any mod kits for the Ford IAC, as for fan control I used one of the many outputs.

Hey Cwate, whats your feelings on the swap after you have it done, are you really happy with the 5.0 how much more power did you get, how is the gas mileage etc, your general impressions, would you suggest it to others?

harsanyj, you are right all the 5.0 explorers use a single speed case the 4.0 liters had both lever and button activated low range, the explorer guys also don't have much good to say about the auto tranny either. and talk about switchin to an AOD

Anyone one know what t-cases would be available with the AOD?

maybe a 88-93 mustang, t-bird, or crown vic with an AOD would be a better donor vehicle?
Thanks for the info guys! Ok well its going to the exhaust shop monday morning when I get back to my jeep. new exhaust and the o2 sensors reinstalled. Also i'll check the manifold vacuum, just need to pick up a gauge. I don't have any pics of the AOD installed, I've been pretty bad with taking pics as I go, was gonna take a bunch when I'm done, (hopefully monday night!!) Is there anything you want to see in particular though, I can try to remember to take some!
Any pics of the aod installed?

Found an aod local. Is there an obvious way to tell which year it came from?

Best source for a shifter for it?

Someone posted to use the zf adapter from advance to run a 300, but there were two on the site, which one?

I had to find a way to connect the 5.0 fuel rail to my Jeep's hard lines. Dorman make these fuel rail adapters that have a barb on the other side. Part numbers 800-130 and 800-131 for the feed and return, about 12 bucks each. Ran some FI rated rubber line held with FI hose clamps to my Jeep's original hard lines. Hope this helps.

Need help on how to diagnose an engine stumble.

I have a '98 Xploder 302 in the jeep, bone stock with factory harness and computer out of the X. Running a stock in-tank fuel pump also. This has been in the Jeep for about 10 years now.

Lately the jeep wants to stumble and cut out when I am climbing steep rocks. It doesn't stall, just hesitates and will catch and cut out while trying to climb. I can't find the reason and need so help in figuring out what's going on. Any ideas where to start?

so this is a OBD2 system do you have any codes?

Im running same motor just in OBD1 config and my last problem was a rough idle when going into 3rd or 4th at a low RPM and then accelerating mine would stumble pretty damn good. Mine turned out to be the MAF was dirty

Have you checked or even cleaned the MAF?

Most vehicle electronics don't care about driving conditions like climbing rocks, but with increased angle comes increased load & demand for fuel. If your fuel filter is partially clogged the motor can run fine in normal conditions but start to stumble with increased load because of lack of enough fuel. I would start with changing the filter. It's cheap enough & a whole lot less headache than chasing electrical problems. If the filter has any large particles coming out of it I would check the strainer on the fuel pump too. It's designed to keep water out of the fuel system but acts as a pre filter for debris also.

not that anyone gives a fuck but I,m going to put this out anyway. If you can,t afford FI , you can make an older 302 run on jeep electonitcs. or go to a hei dis. if useing a roller tapet cam you need to change out the dis gear. you can not use a steel gear with a roller tapet cam.

I'm almost done with my 5.0 install. I used a 302 out of a 98 Explorer, Painless wiring kit, C6 tranny, NP205 Transfercase to the 8.8 rear end.

FWIW, I used the Explorer flywheel with the C6 out of an 84 F250 and the transfercase from an 84 Bronco.

Unfortunately I can't post any pictures of my build, I'm guessing I haven't posted enough?

84 Bronco had a 205? Use photobucket and link the pics.
