Ive got a 1985 GMC truck, it has the 10 bolt axle up front, the Upper ball joint is warn out and needs repalcing. In order to do this i need to remove the knuckle, and to do that i have to pull the axle shaft out.

Im having a problem with removing the rotor, ive never worked with an axle that has locking front hubs, and just want to know what the steps are to remove the parts. I tried hammering the disc, but it wouldn't budge, is one piece with the rest of the hub?

here's a link to a video i made showing the problem.

Goddamn, as much as I'd enjoy watching you try to take it all apart with a hammer.... I'll throw you a bone since you spent so much time researching the proceedure:rolleyes:

Yes, that is sarcasm, by the way. If you had looked, you would have found plenty of information. If I'm not mistaken, they still make these things called books, and the one you are looking for is at a place called the Library, or even, god forbid, an auto parts store. Ever fucking hear of Chiltons? Or you could have just done a simple google search. Either way, you FAIL.

Anyways, since I'm in a really good mood, and this stupidity has already brightened my day even more....

There may be minor differences, but they are just that, MINOR, so if you can't figure it out after looking at the pretty pictures, then you may need to resort to actually reading and comprehending, and figuring a little bit out for yourself.

lol geeze, okay thanks.

Sorry for the stupidity, its wet and raining and slushy outside. wanted to spend as little time out there as possible tinkering. Im gona go pick up a 4 point socket....

I did not realize that the rotor assemble comes off as one piece. Thanks for making me less ignorant ;)

while you've got the whole thing apart-pack the bearings and replace the seals... and yeah, its got to be fully disassembled. please use the correct spindle nut socket-and do a little more searching next time

Damn, all you did was prolong the ordeal. Would have been quicker and more comfortable to educate yourself inside, with the aforementioned resources, and the beverage of your choice. As it stands, you spent that time outside in the rain for naught, and still have it all to do anyways.

make sure you remember how that crap comes apart and goes back together. especially those two bearing nuts. one has a little tab sticking up on it that the washer locks onto. first time i did mine i just threw it all in a pile and had to have someone help me reinstall it as chiltons as usual didnt tell you anything about it.

When you get it apart.......can you check to see if there is a spring between the hub assembly and the spindle nuts?

I have one that just went nuclear on me and it came out in chunks.......I'm getting it all put back together but I think there is a spring missing.

something like:

I'm missing part #13

pics from that site dont work cause you have to be a member to view pics in most forums if not all, been a while since i been there.

but anyways, yes that big ass spring is supposed to go in between the inner lockout piece and bearing retaining nuts. i have left them out before and never really had any problems. stupid extra parts
