Newer side by sides are pushing themselves pretty hard right out of the box. Nothing like 10 or even 5 years ago.

Please check and change your oil often and your air filter too. These arent 25hp lawn mower motors anymore.

Air filters get dirty and start sucking oil, sooner than you know you could ruin an engine.

I know it is common sense but they are a bit more precision than they used to be.

Have seen 2 recent ones that customers thought that realistically once a year (or so) was enough.

Yep, easily overlooked, especially for those of us down here that can ride year round. Plus, us down here in dusty/muddy conditions don’t forget to lube the suspension parts too.

Great post Cary.

Dealer here in town...had a guy....one year old machine....top end is messed up. Working on it....he said the oil was disgusting....they get the top end apart...and tell the guy, his lower is sketchy and that he should get that done too....he refuses.

6 months later brings it back...cause the motor is gone. Tries to take him to small claims court on it.

Some people just think they're indestructible.

What's considered "often"?
I'm sure others will chime in.....but it depends on where I go. Now after KOH...even though less than 100 miles...I'll change it....actually...all the fluid....front diff, tranny/rear end.

But normally.....about every 500 miles or so. Which...doing the Rubicon....is all summer. The manual says 6 months or 1000 miles...but I do more frequently. Dirt in the oil is your killer...the XP especially...everything is under such tight tolerances...it wouldn't take much.
