My nanc, frozen and mud. Major props to your guys. I've just read all of this write up and just freaking awesome. Ive had this idea once before and came back with this major snow storm that hit western south Dakota. So researched it and this forum came up, gave me almost all the info I need. Also frozen zj, if I could, would you send me some pics of your tracks? I love em and would like to make a set just like them.

Oh and was wondering what you guys pay for each track used of course, for comparison. Thanks guys and love what you've accomplish.

Keep in mind my rim is 7'5 " wide, not 12" ( approx) like the one with the problems, and I'm not using 2000 lb spindles. At no point did I mention unlocking the hubs but simply making room for them to exist without having to use 6" of spacers or to have to machine a different hub assembly for each different application.

I'm not saying it's better but if it works it solves a problem. If it doesn't I'll change it. Keep in mind another thing, the set that had the problems in this thread were also designed by an engineer.
I'm pretty damn sure there won't be an issue with those trailer spindles bending, I was referring to the forces that the swivel hub/knuckle on the truck will experience, they aren't designed for that sort of offset.

Just because one ME doesn't have a grasp of reality (and I see it a lot) doesn't mean we are all bad. I started by building things, now I'm learning the design side of it.

Nice, well I now know I'm getting a good deal. I found a snowmobile junkyard and sells his tracks for 200 for one inch lugs and up for taller of course and that's 136" tracks and I seen them today all seem to be in good condition. I'm going to talk to the guy and see if he'd work me a deal for four tracks for abit off. This guy has stacks of tracks at different lengths the 136's are "out of date" cuz everything runs longer now. Yay score for me. Sorry I'm alittle enthusiastic.

Wow that is a lot of steel looks good I am courious how the square drive lugs will sound I think they will dig in good as a sproket. Remember tie rod clearance and ball joint clearance when building and the track will stick in from there keep up the good work. I still however would ust the larger axles?

Shouldn't be any issue with tie rod or ball joint, my design doesn't have back spacing, which will push the tracks out another 3 or 4 inches over most other designs. what I am concerned with however is caliper clearance because of the flat rims. My jeep should be fine, but I know on some vehicles the caliper sticks out past the hub mounting surface.

Ya I was thinking of going more with a mattracks set up and no hyfaxs I have seen enough malt on sleds not interested in dealing with that daily lol glad to hear noise is not that bad! Kinda similar to TSL's?
If u can aford mattracks there u go..... u can listen to them on u tube for noise details this thread is on home built. The noise is caused by vibratiins of the lugs between the hard surface and the wheels.
