make a "check engine light" on 4.3 swap / LED??

*Update;
Well I ended up putting in a red little LED in the middle, on top, but facing towards, the driver. I simply labeled it "CHECK ENGINE," and that was good enough for the smog ref. Thanks guys!

So, coming out of the ECM, one of the wires is 'suppose' to go to the "check engine light." So to fab a check engine light, could you just buy one of those small LED lights and then do what... hook up one end to the wire and the other end to ground?

Is it that simple?

Thanks, Me not no electicle stuff very good :D

Hey Thanks Jason. Just got back from Radio shack.

Sad I wasn't driving this last Rubithon, since I had just started the swap a month before. It was a blast like usual anyway. But I'll see you again next summer, driving this time w/ my 4.3!

PS. I dig your new 4runner too, the little I saw of it.

I "think" it is supposed to be labled CHECK ENGINE for the smog check.

Wow, I can believe it, that sounds like the smog ref. Damn. Can I just Lable it?? i.e. put a sticker next to it?
thanks Vova...

i'm pritty sure they will test it. i still have to visit the ref. myself :(

Jay-I have a Toyota V-6 gauge cluster. Do you know which wire is the check engine light? I remember you having a diagram :D

The check engine wire is supposed to be violet and this wire is the ground that goes to the ECU. You need a 12 volt source to the LED with a resistor or else your LED will burn out very quickly.
