but the coolest part was the exhaust restrictor flap that i hacked off some other pipes downstream. heres a few shots of it

wired it up with a bicycle brake cable and some housing...

and then ran it into the cab: set the cable slightly closed to give the exhaust system a tad more backpressure for around town driving which quieted the exhaust a bit and had some noticeable added torque.

then opened up the flap on the hwy for a Ducati breathing inline6 snarl. lol !

heres a shot of my ghetto temp cable / exhaust restrictor that rode shotgun until i figured out the sweet spots for around town vs hwy breathing.

needless to say, despite motorcycles pulling up next to me and staring at the hybrid badge- ducati sidepipes- and oodles of thumbs up.....i ended up deleting the cats for some added breathing/ lower engine temps and returned to a much more cruiser friendly exhaust note with a Vibrant stainless resonator and a ems stainless exhaust. tucked up inside of rear wheel and a good foot higher than the rear axle. bad angle on this pic- but the resonator actually sits inboard of the rear wheel.

the fun part has been the evolution - trying things- seeing how it works and then undoing or changing it up.

Heres an early set of softtop bows i bent up in my initial plan to have a full length softopper

here it is loaded up with my bearproof boxes - sides down- with everything i usually carry in my other 80. This was the earlier shortbed version....not longer 16" extended version which i mainly run now.

Heres my other 80 'Sweetpea'which has been feeling a bit neglected- so i also hacked off the rockers and cats for some added clearance. Still a 1000lbs more than the FZj55 which ive named ' BaconBits' .

and for good measure i swapped out the 80 4wd badge for some leftover 55 bits after the $35 dune beige rattlecanning.
