i run 37's, 22re and 4:30's. it sux but its still driveable. i am just driving mine until the engine blows. when it does i will have to decide on if its staying 4 banger and maybe buy weak 5:29's.... i say leave your gears till your motor dies and replace it with some more power.

if you regear see if the 6:17;s are strong enough...

I've got 60's and 39.5 swampers. I went with 5.86 gears in mine. Its barely enough, thankfully it gets trailered. I usually use my stock low range to run around in on the road, slow yes but much more responsive and easier on the clutch. The only difference is I have a 3.0 in mine, but its pretty micropowered....

yeah, that is brilliant.....with a pinion gear the size of your thumb.
Actually if u have ever seen the pinion there is still alot of beef on there. I have 2 buddies runnning 7.17's on their junk. They r breaking front 60 shafts right and left before even having to worry about the pinion. Alot of guys that have hight performace rails run 7.17's with well over 500hp with no problems eaither. :shaking:

put gears in the t-case. I runa 22re, 4.30's in the toy axles , 39's , and 4.0 gears in the rear case and it does fine . You have an ARB in the front axle right ? just put the rear case in low and unlock the arb.

Okay so it was toy axles, and on a PU. I am at a higher altitude (I think...) and running a 39.5. My point was that the motor he's running is probably about 1/2 dead already, and thats a lot of the problem. I was running a strong RE, cam, intake work, larger AFM, header, etc. :D
Block has 17x,xxx miles, head has freshly been reworked. Midrange cam, LCE ceramic header, adjustable timing gear.

Another things I forgot to mention, and I bet part of my problem - I run drive flanges up front, so anywhere I go - I am turning those front shafts.

unlock the ARB.

i bet 100% it is since its impossible to steer with a spooled front end anywhere, especially on gravel roads and the street. :flipoff2:

 The ARB is only used right when it is needed... why would I leave it on all the time?
