Like camo said Xterrains have great road manners and they do work offroad just fine. I've ran the Xterrain 35's on my rubi for a while now. Irocs are in a little different class though but come at a higher price and not so good road manners. Have you considered the Interco Trxuss? I know several guys that swear by them for off road driving and they do pretty well on road as well. Good luck with the purchase.

I personally think the Truxxs is a great choice for what He is describing as his needs.

I am currently running the 38x13x20 Truxxs and they are a much better road tire then the Irok and still work great in the snow on my f350.

trail wise, well they seem to be doing decent in comps on a few rigs and I have seen them do great on trails from the hammers to the Rubicon.

If I was looking for a DD / wheeling tire the Truxxs would be at or near the top of the list.

I have a friend with 31 inch X terrains on his commanche and he likes them on the road, the tread seems to be lasting well. He did complain allot about the sidehill ability, he back end of the truck slid sideways down a hill and if his bumper and quarter panel wouldn't have caught on a rock, he probably would have rolled the truck. He hasn't wheeled the rig a ton, but he has no complaints other than that, he also doesn't have any other tire to compare them to except bfg at's and some other tires that are nothing special. From what I'm reading here and the lack of sidehill ability, I would not buy X terrains.

I have wheeled the 37' and 35" xterrains on my camo II rig on trails ranging from the Hammers, Moab to the Rubicon

and have competed in a Ftoy on 37" xterrains.

on both of my f350 I have run 37" xterrains and while they are not wheelers by any means I have used them in the snow and mud

and never once do I recall them to exhibit any side hilling problems.

I would buy them again.

Like any other tire thread, people are going to have some pretty radically different opinions.

Mine were 33's, on a Blazer. They slid downhill on wet roads, just driving down the street. Mine wore like an eraser, just *woop* and they were gone. I have absolutely no confidence in them.

Now, TO BE FAIR, those had to be a fairly early production run, maybe things have changed since then. I sure hope so. :D

I had Irok biased on my jeep when I bought it, took em off, had too much wobble for my taste on a daily driver. traded em out and got a set of ProComp Xtreme Mud Terrains, they work better off road for me then the Iroks did, and are holding up pretty good as my DD, no clue about snow thou (I live in TX, we get freezing rain not snow :p )

I was just saying what I heard happening. Who knows, maybe in the particular situation where my friend had trouble with his X terrains sidehilling was something no tire could have handled too differently. I actually have another friend who loved his X terrians, had the 31's that are now on my other friends jeep and later some 33's. He only had BFG MT's to compare them to and I don't think he really did anything too extreme at all with them, so I don't base my opinion for the tire on what he said.

I will say a friend of mine owned some 31 inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claws that he ran on his ZJ and says they were the BEST tires he's ever owned. He said his BFG at's did better for driving in town in the snow, pretty sure he was happy with how they did for everything else. They did have a very long tread life, they are very spendy though

what has weakside walls ? the xterrain ? you have to be joking right ?

when I did the test on them we had to try repeatedly to puncture a sidewall on purpose. that entailed grinding the sidewall on sharpest nastiest rocks we could find at the exit to wreckingball at the hammers. we literately had the rig completely on its side with the full weight on the sidewalls and rammed the sidewall into the rocks. it took 3 tries before I could get it to pop.

you are certainly entitled to your opinion but my TEST of the sidewall are completely different.

In case you are wondering what make the xterrain sidewall so tuff is it's unique angled ply construction. it was designed and built from the very beginning to have a stronger sidewall then other radials.

That said, I love the Truxxs and think it is a great choice for a DD trail rig

I ran a set of 37 XTerrains on a 1/2 ton chevy and liked the way they worked on rocky trails. They did well in sand and seamed to do well in the snow. I also run my tires at 8 to 10 psi in snow. They replaced a set of swampers that were the best off road but bad on the pavement. Like camo said, Iroks look bad ass...

Sidewalls on the X-Terrains are beefy. No complaints there, just no traction in the snow and they wore out too fast for me.

Pic of the wifes X-terrain after a double barrel roll with her 5k lb Ramcharger on granite. Sidewall took some hard hits going down and rims had the beads pinched against the inner surface of the wheel. No sidewall damage.

My friend and I have very similar trucks. He runs xterrains, I have Iroks. I can say with almost 100% certainty that the Irok is much better for grip in rocks. That said, the xterrain seems to have an excellent sidewall and holds up well. I would not want an Irok on a daily driver. I am sure it is manageable, but just not something I would consider. I think the "right" tire depends on what you need. I would get the xterrain if it was a daily driver, once in a while wheeler. If it was a trail truck, the irok without question.

I had 35" Xterrains on my lifted dually and absolutely hated them. Horrible in the snow, wet pavement, wet grass, or light mud, terrible to keep balanced.

I only took the truck off pavement a few times and certainly not wheeling. The tread filled with mud and didn't clean very well. No steering control on side slopes.

I'm running 36" radial swampers now (converted to sigle wheel also) and it's night and day.

I wouldn't put another set of Xterrains on my truck if you gave them to me.

As for wear, I tried to wear the damn things out and ended up selling them with 55K on them with 30% tread left.

Yup, played in the snow ALL DAY!!! :D:D
no wonder you think they are good at snow wheeling :laughing:

where is the fawking snow ????:laughing:

the xterrain is not a very good snow tire.

the Iroks on the other hand kick ass in the snow.. real snow

the Iroks simply rule at snow wheeling.
The xterrains in the same stuff left me stuck more then once.

believe it or not this is just out of my driveway
