I have come across a few pairs of these tires, and wanted to get responses from people on this board as to their opinion of them.

My current setup: 1978 Bronco, Dana 60 front/14 bolt rear, 35 spline front, 4 link f/r w/coils, full hydro, full cage, blah blah. I am also getting ready to build a 460 for this truck.

My question is, are they really all that much better than cut boggers (every other lug cut out) or not? I understand that their lug height and tread angle would make them better at cleaning out at slower tire speeds. I also know they are lighter, which makes them even more desirable. But, it seems that on most non-competitive trucks, people still are more likely to use boggers. Just watch the TGW videos. Granted, you do see the 18.1's, but there are tons of trucks on 2.5 tons with 44" boggers all the way around, when it would have been cheaper to go with the 18.1's.

I may have just missed the boat on this one, but there has surely got to be a reason why people don't seem to run them as much.

The biggest problem now is, I already have 4 44" cut TSL's (rears are cut "Aetna" style) on 15" rims. I could buy the 18.1 Goodyears I found (brand new, $300 toal), but would have to buy 2 new 16" beadlock wheels for them. Or, I could wait, and buy 2 boggers for the rear, but since the prices have these tires have blown way out of proportion, you aren't seeing as many used tires for sale.

Basically, if you have had experience with cut boggers and the 18.1's, please post up. Also, if you have a mixture of an Interco tire on the front/18.1 on back, please post up pics. I saw the ranger on one of the other mud threads, and it looks pretty good!

Thanks for any and all information.

Yes, they are better than a 44 cut bogger. The reason people don't run them as much is you need a 16.1 rim and have to have a center cut.

Some people do run them on a 16 inch rim. Results vary. But, your 60 won't like them. I've seen three trucks break the spindles off their 60's with the 18.4's.

Man that was quick, gotta love Pirate when you need info! If I were to buy the tires, I would still run the TSL's on the front, and switch to the 18.1's on the rear only (60 front, 14 bolt rear). I have seen several people running this combo, and it seems to work out okay.

I have these tires lined up and ready to buy for $300 for 2 brand new Goodyears (I understand these to be some of the most aggressive in that tire size). However, I would need to get 2 new wheels to run them. I am picky, and also care about how my rig looks overall. I already run beadlocks all the way around, and have found where I could get 16" MRW beadlocks to match mine as close as possible. The problem is, they are $279 a piece, or roughly $560 total. This is putting me up to $900 for 2 tires and wheels, and I would think I could find a pair of used 44" boggers for less than that that I could just mount up on my current beadlocks.

For those of you that run them on 1 tons (I am assuming rear only), what are your experiences with them. They look like they would clean out better than boggers, and possibly side hill better as well (tread angle). I have already gone and seen the Goodyears I am thinking of buying, and they are extremely light for their size.

One other question for those of you that run them. If you are running an Interco tire on the front, are you running different width rims front and rear to come out fairly close on final height. These Goodyears stand fairly tall (guessing 44.5-45"), and I know my TSL's don't stand a true 44".

Once again, thanks for the info!

Depends on which brand. Ameircan farmers are like 46 inches tall and Firestone are only 44ish inches tall if you put them on a 14 inch wide rim.
I think, or I might have them backwards, or maybe it was the Titans that were a little shorter.

This is where I can't give you a definate answer. I've never run them, just seen a lot of other people run them. As for cleaning out, just spin them faster. :D
