1977 f350 front axle ID Now with pics

Hey guys, I'm a Jeep owner but need your help with an axle identification. I was out look for some full width to swap om my TJ and found a F350 1977 single cab 4x4. After coming home and doing some research, I'm now unsure which axle it is. I was hoping for the D60 but now think it might be a D44. It does have drum brakes, unfortunatley I didn't notice if it had closed knuckles or not. Can someone help me with this please? Pics if possible would help too.

Well dang. Now I want to go back out there and look again. Probably do it on thursday.

I was pretty sure it had drum brakes. I will get pics when I go. So what characteristics should I look for if it is a 60?

Agreed. In 77 the Dana 60 was open knuckle with disk brakes. But, this axle sounds like a 74-75.5 closed knuckle with drum brakes. Either the truck is not a 77, or the axle is not original.
Yup, Ford pickups and Bronco went front discs in '76. Can't be a '77.

ford didnt make a one ton (F350) 4x4 until 1979 so something is going on with this truck.
X2. Frankentruck for sure.

Hmm... Ok the frankentruck theory could be true. It was in the junk yard and all. They also had written 77 on the windshield but that could be wrong too. For sure it had disk brakes. So you guys think this is a crap axle then?

Open knuckle disc brake low pinion D44hd is not a bad axle, it's just not a good axle.

If the hub is exactly four inches across where the locking hub bolts up, then it is a 60. The huge hubs are 44 HD. Yard dawg may not know 70s grills and mismarked it a 77. Have fun!

Ok I went back out there to day to take pics. The truck has the f350 badge on the side. It is red and has a battery switch like an ambulance or firetruck. Maybe this was a special order for a VFD? Someone mentioned they didn't make the f350 in 77 in an above post.
Sorry for the big crappy cell pics.
