Season is closing at the end of January for most places for the standard 2018-2019 hunting season so here's the next thread for documenting our outdoor adventures. Good luck gentlemen. :smokin:

Been learning how to talk to the local Canada's around here, they don't go south. They stay here for winter. The mallard hunting this last season was awesome, so trying to make the next years goose season the same. I only killed 50 greenheads and 2 hens. I also killed 9 greater Canada's. My mule deer was small horned 2x3, but we got 100lbs of meat.

We went back up North to Lake of the Woods, MN for the 2nd year in a row over MLK weekend. Our first day out fishing it was -37* and we had a GREAT time! Highly recommend Sportman's Lodge. Nothing crazy big, but between the two of us we probably caught 100 fish between walleye, tullabee and sauger over 2 days of fishing. I had a 20"+ walleye coming up and he shook it as soon as he was coming through the hole. This was a pretty average representation of what we kept.

Flooding is pretty bad around here right now. Across from our house is a field and levy and then the Des Moines river that we regularly fish. Husband called me the other evening and told me snow geese were landing - asked if I could leave work. HECK YES. We jump shot a few of them, but trying to sneak up on 10,000 geese with no cover is tough. 40* and pouring, we made the best of it and had a great adventure.

Trying to pick up the geese was another story. The river had gone out Sunday night and this was Tuesday evening. There were chunks of ice from the river 3' thick sitting in this field and husband found out that the water was over his bibs and over his head. We ended up running back to the house and getting one of the float tubes to retrieve downed geese. My husband is a true sportsman. He waded up to his stomach in freezing water before trying the wader route and hoisting the waders up as high as he could before the water was pushing the bib line for 2 geese.

Turkey season is around the bend and I'm ready!

23.8#, 3/4” spurs and a 10.25” beard. killed opening day 4-6-19 @6:53am, 12ga loaded with Winchester Long Beard WR #6 at 30 yards.
They were gobbling like crazy on the roost about 1/4 mile away. Once they hit the ground they shut up. I spotted him about 100 yards away and he strutted the entire way to me. He had close to a dozen hens and a couple other toms with him. It was a good day.

His feathers look like shit because he did the flop in some wet tall grass, but as you can see when they dried out they didn't look too bad.

Took the day off to chase some turkeys. This young bird came in at 7am and was spooked by my decoy and a deer that was behind me blowing up the woods.

I'm embarrassed to say it wasn't my best shooting ever done, but got the job done. I had set up behind a brush pile and cleared out a shooting lane, however he didn't step into my shooting lane. I had a clear shot through the scope (I thought) at about 10 yards, which is way too short of a distance for the ammo and choke combo I'm running plus I didn't have a clear shot due to the debris from the brush pile. At that distance the shot is so tight I might as well been shooting a deer slug.

Anyways long story short after several shots and a run through the woods chasing him down I finally bagged #2 for the season.

21#, 9" beard and 1" spurs.

Flooding has been bad here, which makes for great bow fishing. I got a steal on a bow fishing rig and got to take it out last night. This is right across from our house, that's the levy road in the background. We've had waterfront property for about 2 weeks now.
Between 5 of us last night we probably shot 30 Asian grass carp and gar, but this was my first bow kill so I was pretty dang excited about it. I've never seen gnats as bad as they are now with all this standing water.

*Trying to use Photobucket to direct post the pic, but it comes out HUGE. Any suggestions?
